string wear

i noticed that my string is wearing down right at the notch point, i always notch the arrow right on the point, never slide it up or down the string, so i assume this is normal wear from the notch leaving the string when shot, but is there anyway to minimize it? can i use the wax from my wife’s compound to let the arrow slide on and off more as appose to scraping the string when it releases?

It’s pretty easy to use an x-acto to carefully cut the serving string, unwind it off and replace with a new serving, which can be hand-wound on. Worst case scenario, you can buy a top-end string for about $20 and many are cheaper.

another thing that can help patch things up is to wrap some dental floss tightly over the serving where you nock the arrow. When the floss wears out, easy enough to replace it.

This wear is often caused by too thick of serving or too tight of a nock.

Take your bow and hold it so the riser is pointing to the sky and the string is parallel to the ground. Then put an arrow on the string pointing at the ground and just hanging from the string. The nock should be tight enough to hang on the string but should come off with tapping your finger on the back of the nock.

If its too tight then take your bow to a archery shop and have them re serve the string tighter or thinner. You can do this yourself as well with just a simple serving tool and a quick search on you tube. I also have a reserving video on my podcast in my signature.

But a shop will only charge 3 bucks or so to hook you up with right size serving.

I use dental floss.Then I carefully melt it with a bic lighter.Holds up well.

Beginner answer again–but 3 rivers sells a knock rule that you simple measure your string with at the knock point then heat your knock in water and insert the other side and it fits for the tap finger release. Simple enough that this dumb grunt could figure it out and it works.:D
