One of my longbows is tuned to shoot 225 grain broadheads. I am going to get some of these and try them out. I have heard great things about them, but no first hand experience….not yet.

Received some 225’s a few days ago. Haven’t had a chance to shoot them yet, but they seem to be exactly what I’ve been looking for. Like other Steel Force heads I’ve used, they are solidly made and wicked sharp out of the box. They really look like they’d be devastating on impact. Will hopefully get a chance to shoot them this weekend for flight and penetration testing and learn more.

Shot ’em for the first time tonight, at a variety of distances and angles, from 10 – 20 yards. Penetration into a foam block was impressive. And I know every marketing machine out there loves to say “they fly just like field points!” but in this case it’s true. I put them on, shot them, and they flew perfectly. No additional tuning necessary. And after a little time on the KME they’re gonna be wicked sharp. Again.

Glad to hear it! I plan to order some soon. I just finished tuning arrows to a new bow over the past few days and I am ready to give some of the SteelForce 225gr a try.

I went to their website and this is the only 225gr I saw. They do not show the one you posted.

Or are these the 135 and 145gr, and yours just not pictured?

Gents — This is merely a question, a curiosity, not a criticism. But I’m curious, if the SF heads are “pricey,” why you would choose them when they have such massive and abrupt ferrules (some models far more so than others)? Compared to the streamlined taper of say Tuffhead, Brown Bear, etc., I’d think penetration, esp. through bone, would be reduced. Ferrule size and design figure into MA. Again, just curious as to what about the SF attracts you if it’s not price?

Its an excellent question. I haven’t bought any head yet, still exploring. IMHO all of the single bevel heads are over priced. Things are getting so expensive when I consider carbons, heads etc, I am giving serious consideration to just making my own woods or aluminums and forgetting the whole EFOC issue. If I can’t afford the arrows it won’t matter much how much they penetrate. 😆

When it come to cost it hard to beat the value of the big, 200 grain Grizzly broadhead. It’s a glue on, so adding an adaptor gives you even more point weight. They are about $36.00 for six; much the same price as the WW or most of the other popular single blade broadheads; and, if you don’t lose it, it will outlast all the others. I still have some original Elburg Grizzly heads that are over thiry years old and still in good condition, and several of those have taken 10 or 12 big animals.

One more question and I promise to stop stealing this thread. I have only found one source, 3 Riv that even has the above mentioned Griz heads, and they only say 160gr and are $43.95. Do you know a secret source for that heads you mentioned at something close to that price?

I wasnt able to find Grizzlys anywhere so I bought some 225 Tuffheads. First time with a single bevel. I glued them up today and WOW! I am extremely impressed. Took a few attempts to find the right spine but once I did it was flying as perfect as ever.

I do think they are expensive though the craftmanship warrants the price. Also, unless you are losing arrows I cant see how you’d ruin one.

While not inexpensive, I personally don’t find the Steel Force heads are any more expensive than a number of other similar heads.

And the ones I have are the slender ferrule version, which I don’t think presents a penetration issue. I agree that the glue-on version seems to have an excessively large ferrule. More so than I would ever choose.

So far, I haven’t found anything not to like about them. They’re a 3:1 ratio, good hardness and well made. But I also have some 200gr. Eclipse single-bevels on the way that I’m curious to compare.

and it is fun to experiment ! and it gives us a report on the capability of these BHs especially if you are successful in the field with them.

I like THs and BBears — grizzlys if they start making them again— always interested in other folks experience / experiments.

I still like Tuffheads best as with 3-1 and their ferrel is thicker to the point than any other – which should help with Punching bone! I like shooting tight to the shoulder so I have a tendency to prefer a head that will help me if I creep into it—just my preference-

I realize better Bhds are not cheap – but such is life imho –

I shot Eclipse WereWolves last year. I got great penetration with them…into the ground when I missed a doe on opening day! I liked them fine; I have some Tuffheads that I am still tinkering with and have ordered the SteelForce Premimun 225s as I have a ready-made setup (my go-to bow) for 225s. Eager to hear your take on the Eclipse versus SteelForce.

3 Rivers site shows – 120gr Left wing and 160 gr Right wing Grizzly’s available if any one is interested in the lighter heads $43–. I have not verified, as I prefer heavier 190’s up.
