O.K. I bought a test kit of carbons from 3 Rivers. I’m pretty sure the arrows that flys the best is between the 9.1 GPI and the 10 (47#@ 29″)with a 150 gr. field point but I get a loud snap at the shot. I ordered some heavier field points to see if the added weight quiets down the snap. I’m thinking even the 150’s are light. Almost sounds like a dry fire would.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?:?

Maybe the arrow is slapping off the riser? Try some spray on powder on the shaft and see if it marks the riser. What spine are the arrows, length etc…sounds like a spine issue causing problem…maybe the arrows are to stiff, if so the heavier heads will help.

9.1=400 10.= 340 Will try the spray, I am shooting off the shelf I’m shooting 26 3/4″ @ 26″ 35# right now, it’s a recurve if that matters
Thanks for the input
Well, to be sure I was sharing correct info I find my draw length is back to normal. 28″ my test kit is too short:oops:
Please feel free to add any thoughts

Those are both extremely overspined for 35# @ 26″. You would need something in a .600 spine. Figure out what point weight you want to shoot, start with full length shafts, and shorten little by little as tuning dictates.

Just re-ordered another kit. I’m up to 40# @ 28″

The only times I hear a crack from the arrow hitting the riser is when my nock point needs adjusting.
As far as tuning and spine of the arrows jwesbrook is giving you great advice.
Good luck

O.K. tell me what I’m looking for in a tuned arrow, I know flight but do I get an arrow sized to the broad head I plan to shoot?
I took the 600 advise but 100 gr heads were the best i couls get close to straight. I workeked a 175 gr head on a 400 shaft with good results. Both arrows were right slant about 15 degrees This angle measurement is SWAG!!
I would rather shoot the heavier head.
I’m noticing using the full length shafts that my draw is also getting longer. Been away from recurve for several years. Should I just shoot for a few weeks before I get serious about this. I’m thinking “yes”.

You might have already seen this, but we have a Feature Article from a few years back, Tuning 101 by Matt Green. Maybe this will help you analyze your shooting.
