Well I went to the range again today. There were two other folks there, both wheelie shooters.
They were tinkering around with their sights and such when I showed up, and it didn’t even take 5 minutes for them to start heckling me about my longbow and 500 grain arrows. Being used to such things I keep my responses short and polite.
They were trying to sight their bows in for 30 yards and having a bit of trouble for whatever reason. They were shooting about 8 inch groups and weren’t sure what they were doing wrong.
Anyhow I was shooting really good today and decided I would give the 30 a try as well. Both of them watched me walk over and were probably a little curious. Anyhow I shot one three shot group and even blew my own mind!I usually average 6 to 8 inch groups at 20 yards but I never stack arrows like that. So anyway now they are looking at me with open mouths and wide eyes while I casually walk to the target and grab my arrows. As I walk past them back on my way to the 20 I simply say “Ain’t nuthin wrong with my sights”. Never heard a another word about my choice of equipment for the rest of the afternoon. Man it was sweet.

Good shooting! Love to hear it! Very funny!
Years ago, at a Deer Show in Madison, I was waiting to shoot a longbow in a try out area. Some kids were watching people shoot. The fellow in front of me was attempting to shoot a pimped out compound with the latest sight gizmo, and they were having problems with it. They could hardly hit paper at 10 yards. So they stepped aside to do more adjusting. So I step up with three arrows, and shoot a group similar to yours. Those kids hadn’t seen too many wood bow shooters, and were oooing the shots. After I retrieved my arrows, I walked by them and asked them if they needed gizmos to throw a baseball accurately. They said no, then I said well you don’t need gizmos to shoot a bow accurately either. Just practice. I don’t think that the gizmo seller liked me much. 😉

You don’t sink low to find Chuck Norris. You wait for Chuck Norris to pull the rest of the world up.

Foe some reason when something this happens I always want so badly to make a snide commit like “if you’d switch to high test instead of regular grade that thing would shoot better”. However, I normally just smile and say something like ” just keep at it, you’ll figure it in alittle while” then walk off. It seems to get under their skin alot better. hehehehehe!!!!

wildschwein,
It’s unfortunate that some people feel the need to make snide comments like that. I can only remember once having a compound shooter try to give me a hard time. Aside from that, any comments I receive are genuine curiosity — how do you aim one of those things, what kind of broadheads do you use, and such. One thing I’ve learned over nearly 30 years of competitive shooting is the folks who yap the loudest generally can’t hit a wall tent from the inside, and that goes for traditional and compound shooters alike.

Yah the snide comments get a bit old, but unlike down South there are alot of folks in Northern Canada that don’t think a trad bow is a serious weapon. And I have met more than one that are actually opposed to them being used for anything more than small game!
Guess I’ll just have to prove em wrong. -

Yep, I shot techno hunt with a wheelie friend(he had a gift certificate) and he started giving me a ration about my arrow speed until his peep sight slid and I out shot him. That new fangeled techno hunt is kinda fun–never shot me a monkey before!

Guess I’ll just have to prove em wrong. When I showed up in NW Ontario for a moose hunt five years ago with a recurve, it raised a few eyebrows. The comments weren’t demeaning or insulting, just curious as to whether or not such a bow was capable of killing a moose (as if history hadn’t long ago put that debate to bed). After my arrow went in one side and out the other, I didn’t hear anymore questions.
