This spring has barely sprung here in SW lower Michigan. Just got me thinking about finding a patch of snow in June one year as a kid in New England. Curious about other areas of the country when you’ve seen your last bit of snow go out…assuming it does for most eventually. Just amazes me the contrast between this winter and last year…

The way it’s going right now we might just have snow until June! Just got another 4″ in the last 2 days!!

Yeah, in VT (where I grew up) we used to find snow in June all of the time.

Here in the flatlands, not so much.

Arwen and I heard spring peepers last night when we got home from square dancing.

Been in OH 3 winters now. The first was snow all the time. From late Nov. thru mid April. Last winter hardly any snow at all. This winter has been another banger. Snow would barely melt off before another came in with gusto. I’ve seen enough over the past three winters to last me a lifetime.

Oh well,,,, there’s next winter…..

It’s been really strange here in the Lehigh Valley of PA. Past 2 years were pretty much sans-snow. Last year was the “blizzard” at Holloween, then we struggled to get 10% as much for the rest of the winter. This year was like the one prior, just without the snow in October (but a hurricane instead). We were supposed to get a few “storm of the century” type deals, but the most we got was a coating to a half inch. Truth be told, I kind of miss it. Since I started hunting (only a few years now) I would always go out the last day of the extended deer season here in WMU 5C. I would walk through the snow on the gamelands, look for tracks, moan about not seeing anything and go home. Last year I was walking on grass and this year I didn’t even go (for lack of snow). Be well.

Lots of snow in Southwestern Manitoba and still snowing !! We’ve had a very cool spring with very few melting days and this is creating flood potential.

The deer herd is doing alright I think ? I just here about the local ones and have not heard any negative reports for the rest of the province.I have eight or ten right in my yard that have eaten or wrecked a round bale, and three compresssed square bales that I use for stopping arrows. A little bit of getting even I guess 😉

Fairly normal April for us – rain and snow and the occasional sunny day. After a couple rough Springs in a row, it’s nice to think that animals are having an easier time of it this spring. Saw about 30 elk on the hillside behind the house this morning.

All the South facing slopes are about bare here but the rest of the yard is still almost a foot deep. More where its shaded! an hour South of us….. nothing ! I sure hope the snow is gone by turkey season ! Happy Hunting from North Central Ontario !!

We’re having a rather normal April. Still snow in the shadows, and the ground’s still frozen beneath a couple inches of soggy earth. I grow organic vegetables for a living and am always impatient this time of year. Checked my farm journal and saw that I had some veggies (kale, Brussels Sprouts, peas, cabbage, and broccoli) in the ground last year in March. A crazy year that was.

Official total from Oct through today = 216 inches of the white stuff, although in the 60’s today it’s not over- 2 years ago we got 3 feet on 18 April:)

Watched 5 jakes and 2 gobblers this morning strutting their stuff–got rather muddy and wet sneaking out as not to disturb them, 8 days for the season to open–please no more snow!

Yup. We’ve had plenty of snow here in NE Kansas this year. This spring is closer to normal than last year. The last frost here in Spring 2012 was ~2 months ahead of average and so were the turkeys. Their breeding season barely coincided with the hunting season. This was the scene in Kansas yesterday (4-9-2013). We had a great storm.
