I posted these pics on another web site and thought I’d share here. This is my take down recurve. With the help of my hunting mentor we made this bow back in 1992. The limbs needed to be refinished. The riser is only a few years old though. I recently found out I should be shooting left handed due to eye dominancy. Anyway, praire rattler skins on my 53# @ 28″ recurve.

Those limbs look awesome with the rattlesnake on them. Nice job. The riser is unique, too. Very cool.

Jeremy — those are exceptionally bold and pretty prairie rattler skins. One of my bows is skinned the same, but they were rather light to start with and faded more, even under finish. I finally had to put a dark stain on top. I’ve since come to prefer cottonmouth for its darkness. I hope yours hold up — gorgeous bow. dave

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. Dave, I didn’t realize the skins would fade, I’ll have to keep an eye on them. Thanks for the heads up.

I have used prairie rattler on several bows. The oldest is 4 years and it hasn’t faded yet.

So don’t fret. The skins shouldn’t fade.

Maybe it has to do with where you live. Dave lives in the high country where UV in sunlight is more of a problem. I live in the low country where it is not so much a problem.

lzfd58, I must confess to skipping this thread as I don’t like snake skin backing, just looked out of curiosity and you have completely converted me those are quite stunning, well done on both counts.

                  Mark.

                    Thanks Mark,

I wasn’t so sure myself until I looked at them more and more. I was torn between rattler and copperhead. I like the brown/tan colors in copperhead. But with the green and gray colors in my riser I was advised to go rattler. I really liked how they turned out. I’m happy to hear someone who isn’t to keen on the idea likes the way it looks. That says alot. Thanks!

I love the snakes with the wood in that riser. That is a beauty!
