Elm trees started budding here but now it’s some snow/ice (just enough snow to slick things up)and about 5*. Spring not springing yet. Still dry here but y’all up to your ying yangs in snow. Strange things happening this year.

Aspen buds appeared a few days ago off our deck here in NH. Used to be a grouse that came by every year to feast on them, but not for the last couple of years. Woodpeckers have been chasing each other around, and it seems like the crows are starting to get a touch rowdy. Cold weather is undoubtedly suppressing some of this.

Seems like our sandhills have passed north already. Red maples and redbuds have budded out. Upland chorus frogs singing every night. Spring peepers havent started yet. Unbelievably there are a ton of redheads (ducks) in ponds and lakes all over middle ga. We dont usually get a lot of them in that area at all.

Turkeys in south ga have broken from winter flocks and are gobbling but up in north ga they are still grouped up. I notice more songbirds daily and the crappie are suspended over 20′ of water.

Spring is right on the cusp!

I heard 4 or 5 gobblers hammering Sat morning.:D Our azaleas and redbuds are blooming, dogwoods will be starting in a week or so. Hope to get most of my Rx burning done in the next few weeks.

Our youth turkey weekend is in two weeks!! The boy and I are beside ourselves.

Below zero all day. Has been for Months here in NW MN. Saw 2 chickadees wearing parkas on the bird feeder today. They rolled a soda can over and started a fire to stay warm. If spring is coming, someone tell it to hurry up…Been a long winter

spring is here we’ve had a great winter , with the exception of a few sub zeros . I saw my first robins on Fri and we are getting plenty of snow – skiing and shoeing have been great. In general all in all we have had a great winter

I was hearing them fly over last year at this time, I think this year they are still in southern Kansas.

Saw some maple blooms Sunday and the cedar pollen is flying. Woodpeckers are all hammering everyday. Warmer days are on the way.

Been seeing about a dozen turkeys on a regular basis. They seem to congregate every year across the road from me. That is the only sign of spring here. Snow is still 3 to 4 feet everywhere, long range forecast shows no evidence of warmth. Minus 20’s at night and minus teens for daytime highs… I don’t mean to be a pessimist, but I don’t believe there is such a thing as spring anymore !!!

We have 2-3 inches of sleet with 4 inches of snow on top and it’s 16F. That’s our spring. We grow cotton here, it’s the bloomin’ South for crying out loud…I’m 60 years old and I can say this is the worst winter I can remember..

Here in SE Wyoming there is hope: low temps aren’t as low, high temps are creeping up, snow is wetter and melts off faster, there is alot more mud, AND the neighborhood chipmunk is out of hibernation and making daily trips to our backyard bird feeder.

There should be plenty more snow in March and April but the grip is loosening on the high, cold desert of the Laramie Range. 😀

We’ve had robins here for weeks, climbing the snowbanks along the roadside pecking away at whatever they can find. Some small flocks do winter over here around the bogs and swamps, as well as some minor blue bird populations in a few select areas.

I did get out to stump a little but spent most of the time digging in the snow for my arrow. I’ll probably snowshoe out a bit in the morning to girdle a few trees for firewood. They’re calling for one more storm next week. Enjoy it while you can. El Nino will have it too dang hot all too soon! peace, dwc

I am looking forward to warmer temps and barefoot running, but one thing I will definitely miss is the the smell of various wood burning stoves I encounter along my route. Birch is awesome, pine reminds me of hunting camp!! Puts me in my happy place!

No sign of Spring in NE Kansas yet. It was -8*F on Monday and there’s snow expected tonight (Friday). The Turkey Vultures haven’t returned yet but I’m watching for them every day. They’re one of the first markers of Spring in my area.

Say, fellas, I’m not trying to ruffle any feathers but the American Robin’s year-round range spans virtually the entire lower 48. The notion of seeing a “Spring Robin” is, largely, a myth. Just like you, they’re there all year round.

It sure seems like spring is a long time coming, but a couple of signs have appeared this week. First, I saw a crow in my juniper tree breaking a branch off and taking it away for nesting material. Second, I have started making three steam bent wooden dip nets for fly fishing. Fishing starts April 1st and there is still 20 inches of ice on the lake. Calling for freezing rain and snow for Wednesday and Thursday. Just quit with the winter weather will ya!!!!!!!!!

We’re right on the edge of town so we have city water. But that source is the Ogallala Aquifer which is being depleted at scary rate by crop irrigation. Our water used to come, like 50/50 from Lake Meredith, but the lake is so low it’s not being pumped from anymore. So yeah, we’re concerned. A friend has spent beaucoup dollars on a new well. It’s worrisome for sure.

It’s hurting the wildlife for sure. It’s a good thing that the ranchers run windmills and have stock tanks around the country.
