Aaah it felt good today to go out and scout/stump shoot in my honey hole above the Hudson River today! I usually leave it alone from February until now. The fact that the terrain has no hiking trail and is very steep, with cliffs and unstable boulders everywhere, seems to keep everyone away except the deer and this Swiss mountain boy! Today, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much deer sign up there. Well used trails, beds and droppings everywhere (some pretty big!). And it was literally raining acorns!! I’m really excited to get in there before light hopefully Sunday or Monday! Here are some pictures:

        REAL Mossy Oak!!

My ground blind on the right, and deer trail 30ft below the rock on the left. I killed my last 3 deer from this place!

        4ft wide deer bed!

I decided to hunt a little bit from a tree stand on a long shelf, so I can see what’s coming. I saw foxes, coyotes, and of course deer bedding on this shelf. I put my tree stand on the center tree 19 yards from the above-mentioned deer bed, where I’m standing while taking this pic!!:D

tree stand close-up! It’s well hidden, I think!

I’m going “High Tech” this year! 😛 Sharp out of the box screw-in steel force traditional and my last Muzzy Phantom 220gr broadhead from the same six-pack I bought 10 years ago and killed my first deer with traditional equipment! The footings come from my first traditional arrows, Easton 2018! I recycle!! 😀

Sure gets the blood pumping, don’t it?! Good luck! Tomorrow morning is my first time out this season. Can’t wait to finally get out there.

Alex, beautiful countryside you have access to. Tomorrow is our state wide archery opener. It’s supposed to rain hard in eastern PA in the a.m. I’ll be camping with the boy scouts this weekend, so it’ll have to wait a few days for me anyway.

My township and a few adjoining townships are closed to hunting temporarily due to a manhunt for a suspected shooter of two state policemen. I’m fortunate to have some access in an area that’s open. It’s an odd time to be in the woods here. We’re all hoping it can be over soon, for many reasons.

I wish all you guys heading out safe and fruitful hunts.

                All the best, dwc
