I made my first batch of deer soap.

I should have taken some pictures and made a soap along. The process was fun. I got to play with fire and chemicals.

Now the soap is aged about 2 weeks. I used Lye for the base. So the soap is the traditional hard soap. It has a nice appearance and the smell is ok. As with all lye based soap, there isn’t a sudsy action. I understand that borax can be added to improve the sudsyness.

I hear that potassium hydroxide instead of sodium hydroxide (lye) can be used to make a softer soap.

Anybody make soap and have some good experiences / results to share?

Maybe next year. I’ll improve my technique a bit, and take pictures…

Have to harvest a few more deer, I used up all the tallow in the one batch.
