Seems most anymore are gathering up with their trad bows, a 3D course is in order so so scores can be kept.
We cancelled a 3D shoot this weekend because of so many folks of busy doing other things so four of us gathered up and spent the morning roving the range and stump shooting.
What has happened to that? I and a couple of friends used to spend hours and hours and days stumping and enjoying our bows and each others company. The only competition was the occasional “follow the leader” after who made the best shot at something.
I know some that if they don’t turn in a good score their day was wasn’t a good day.
To me a day I can shoot is a good day, maybe I just didn’t shoot well….but I had fun and spent time being alive.
Grab some friends and/or acquaintances or both and just go for a field jaunt on some nice day. Life is not all competition.

There was a recent thread on the Leatherwall about 3D shooting and my reply was I really enjoy 3D shooting but I very seldom keep score. I just shoot for the fun of it. My cousins and I would also do the “follow the leader” routine at the 3D shoots if there wasn’t many shooters on the trail.
When the big round hay bales appeared in this area a bunch of us would get permission to shoot the field. We would all flip a coin to see who would take the first shot. That shooter would pick a bale and the closest to center would get to pick the next bale and shoot first. Our version of playing hay meadow ‘horse’.

I’ve enjoyed stump shooting for many years, and continued doing it when we came to Ohio in 2006. The rules here are that you can’t target shoot on public land except for at designated ranges and I assumed that was for firearms. I found out a while back that it covers ANY shooting, guns, bows, slingshots….

Here in Ks you can’t target shoot on public land and I also assume that pertains to firearms. I’ll have to look that up and see if it includes archery.
My usual routine is to trash shoot on the way back to the truck when I exit the woods and I carry a plastic sack with me to carry out the kills. There’s usually an abundance of targets to pick from.

Since moving to the land of no trees, stumps are some what of an endangered species. But dry cow Patty’s are never in short supply. And a poor day afield is one where you never loose an arrow.
