I have a right wing fletching jig by Bohning Right Clamp. I purchased some 5 inch parabolic RW barred feathers. The feathers seam to be curled the total opposite direction for my jig. Do I need a special fletching jig for right wing feathers? I am new to traditional and I am trying to start tuning my arrows. Thanks

Not familiar with the Bohning Right Clamp. With my Bitzenburger, I have a Right Wing clamp (“Right” is embossed into the metal of the clamp) that only accepts Right Wing Feathers, at least that is all I ever use and it works fine. On the feathers that I purchase, mainly Gateway feathers and always right wing, the quill or base of the feather extends to the left when sighting down the feather from the nock end or “fat” end toward the narrow end. Hope this helps. I do know that left wing feathers seem to be more popular and sometimes right wing feathers are a special order because the feather suppliers tend to have left wing feathers only.
BEst of luck

I have used both right wing & left wing feathers on my bow. I shoot right handed & it doesn’t seem to matter which I use. Both RW & LW arrows will shoot into the same group. Just don’t mix them.
The feathers do curl in the opposite direction, & you are supposed to use a RW clamp with RW feathers. I have never tried the opposite feathers in the clamp. Might be interesting.

From reading your note, it seems like you have everything you need. I’d say putting an arrow together and see what you get. The first time I fletched, it all seemed a little odd, but it came out just fine. With a little care you can remove the feathers and start over. Remember to lightly scrub the finish of the shaft where you are going to put the feather to break the finish. I use a plastic scouring pad and some folks use fine sand paper. Wipe the arrow off with alcohol and keep it clean while you fletch. It’s fun to see you own arrows fly right. Enjoy, dwc

I have a Bohning clamp, and have a right and a Lft wing clamp, I have fletched Lots of arrows with it, what I have found is although I use mainly left wing feathers now, my right wing clamp will put a real nice helical on an arrow! As stated just do not cross left and right wing feathers! LOL I did it once on an arrow made for some interesting arrow flight!

I wanted to add one thing. I was using a right wing helical and switched to a straight clamp, still with right wing feathers. I might have a little offset, but very little, and the arrows still spin nicely and fly straight. dwc
