Hi all, one of my bows is a Martin Rebel 52″ recurve and it is about time for a replacement string. The string that came stock on the bow was a 49″ actual length string and that is the length that the manufacturer recommends. However, the last replacement I bought was a 48″ string and I don’t quite like the shorter string. Just looking around a little it is not easy to find a 49″ string does anybody have any suggestions on a string or where to find one? Any input is much appreciated!

Hi Bo. Welcome to the new site! I’m sure the guys will be along soon to chat with you about your string question. We are all still trying to get used to this new system.
In the Classified section of the magazine there are two custom string builders; the first ad and the last ad. I’ll post an image here. If you have trouble reading it let me know and I can send you the actual image.

Rolling your own gets way easier after the first one. I found this guy’s tutorial very helpful:

Hi Bo. A few things that might help you in your search. Do you know if the bow is fast flight compatible? That will narrow down which type of material you can use. You do want to make sure the string is 3″ shorter then the AMO length of your bow. Choosing a replacement recurve bowstring can be very confusing with so many options. There’s a company in Pennsylvania called 60x custom strings the has a great reputation and may be able to answer any questions and get you what you need.

I’m thinking it’s 3″ shorter than bow length for a longbow and 4″ shorter than bow length for a recurve. :-))
