I own a Hoyt Gamemaster II recurve and a Martin Savannah longbow. Both are 62″ in length and 50# draw. Is one faster (fps) than the other? I am shooting the Gamemaster II with CX 300 plastic vanes; the Savannah same CX 300 only with feathers. I use a glove and shoot off a flipper rest with the Gamemaster II; and use a finger tab and shoot off the traditional bow rest. (Sorry for the interuption; was trying to save question until more info was received). Thanks guys!

          Welcome to the forum.

No idea if one is faster than the other, but I can tell you that either one is plenty fast enough to get the job done, assuming it’s paired with the right arrow. People were taking animals with bows long before anything as sophisticated as what we’re shooting now came along.

The Savannah is probably the best production longbow I’ve ever shot – smooth and quick and not afraid of a heavy arrow. Probably the only production bow I’ve owned that I regret selling.

            Hi there!

Honestly, you’re in the best position to tell which is faster, if you can get somewhere that has a chronograph you can use. Shoot em both and there ya go. The thing is, you could even have two “identical” bows not shoot the same.

Hey mate, I just did a little googling and found at 10gpp the Hoyt getting around 180fps and the Martin getting about 160fps.

I wouldn’t worry too much about that speed difference and focus on the one you shoot more comfortably and consistently.
