Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is honored to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of bowhunting history – a rare, take-down longbow that dates back to the early era of modern bowhunting.
This 62-inch wooden longbow features horn tips and leather grips and a pull weight of 50 pounds. According to archery historian Joe St. Charles, what makes this bow particularly rare is that it is a ‘break down’ model that comes apart for easier travel. It is now in a very nice display case built by Dave Doran.
The bow was made by E. F. Pope, of Texas, sometime before World War II, according to St. Charles. Pope was a noted bowyer of the day and contributed staves to Arthur Pope and Saxton Young, considered the fathers of modern bowhunting. The bow was used and does have some signs of use and age, but is in good condition.
This rare, antique bow was donated to BHA by a generous Montana member and is currently for sale on EBay. This past March, it was shown at the BHA Rendezvous in Missoula, and at the Professional Bowhunters Society annual gathering in Portland, Oregon.
All proceeds will be used to support BHA’s mission to protect quality habitat and backcountry hunting and fishing on your public lands.
