With the storms and high winds we have been having I stay out of the woods and indoors as much as I can.  I’m a ham radio operator and am a member of the regional ARES and am a volunteer weather spotter for the SE KS – SW MO regional NWS so I’m out watching the weather if any watches and warnings come up.

If I’m not doing weather watch I’m always tinkering with archery gear.  Since I’m still slowly building the muscle strength back into my left arm I’m shooting my lightweight bows but I’m low on ammunition.  I made 3 dozen Poplar shafts and am cresting them with bright colors so they can’t hide in the grass as easy,

The aeros are looking good !!  Fine line cresting on wood shafts is a neat trick.

Question; Is there a reason for using oversized nocks on wood shafts or is that just what you had handy ???

Edit to add; The black dots on the orange shafts ………. Is that to align the grain ???

Those shafts are slightly under 5/16 so the nocks look too big and yes the dot is grain alignment.

The fl. green paint is Rustoleum and I’m disliking that brand more every time I use it.  That is about the only brand that the local Home Depot and Wally world will stock.  It just doesn’t dry very or adhere very good at all.  The Orange is Krylon and I won’t have any problems with it.

I was having trouble with my rattle can arrow caps holding the fletch without breaking off at the glue line.  A miss in the dirt and half my fletch would pop off.

Currently using Rustoleum  white paint / primer for the base, a coat of Min-Wax Polycrylic clear, a coat of Krylon Fluorescent and a top coat of Min-Wax clear satin.

I went to tape to apply the spliced fletch with a bead of glue on the leading edge.   I tend to beat my arrows up pretty bad and so far they’re holding up very well. 100 yard roving shots and such. I don’t hit the target much at that distance but the anticipation watching the arrow arc up with a “Go baby, Go !!” is kinda cool.
