Early summer I did a little horse trading and I got 4 Vapor Carbonwood 4000 arrows made by Blackhawk and would like to know what some of you think about them? I shoot them with 125 grain bullet points out of my Bear Stag Hunter 45/50# recurve and they are shooting fine if not great. I really like these arrows but I thought I saw something somewhere that these are not produced any more. So is this true and if not where would I be able to find more?
Many thanks,

Eric — Since nobody else so far is speaking up, I’ll offer what little I know of the Vapors. A while back I got 6 from a friend and fletched them up and I really like their looks. I’d love to hunt with them, but they’re a bit underspined for my bows and can’t be shortened any more and I don’t want to sacrifice FOC by going down to a lighter head. So I can’t really help you much. I too heard they are no longer being made, and have to wonder why.

Thanks Dave and Ed maybe someone will eventually post something about their experience with these arrows. This was also more of just a curiosity type question and I wanted to maybe pick some brains here. My knowledge of traditional archery is very small and limited which I probably could put it all on a 3X5 index card. Outside of Traditional Bowhunter magazine and it’s forum here I am basically on my own.

I keep my vapor carbon wood 3000 full length and use 175 grain field points and they fly great out of my longbows. I was looking for more of them and I could not find them. I did not realize that they were no longer being made. These are great shafts maybe a swap meet or a garage sale would be a place to look for them. Perhaps the swap meet at Denton Hill?

Gold Tip did buy Vapor out. Google Big Jim’s Bow Co. as he carries the current vapor line of carbons and he may have some of what you are looking for on hand. Big Jim makes a sweet little r/d longbow too!
If I remember correctly, the numerical designation had nothing to do with the spine. I think the older 3000 series was a .400 spine and the 4000 series was a .340?!? The newer Vapors are spine marked and the weights are similar to the Easton or Beman 5/16″ diameter carbons-.400 spine in wood grain or camo = 9.1 gpiAt the Cloverdale Shoot last summer, I bought a dozen of the camo Vapor .400 for about $40. I don’t care about the camo or wood grain that much but it is what he had the deal on and they are a tad heavier than the black shafts.Good Luck! Mike
