I am currently shooting an arrow that is 400 grain total, using a 145 grain broadhead, out of a 53.5# longbow. The FOC calculation is 17.7%. I chrono’d this setup at 192fps. I have always gotten pass-thru’s on elk and mulies. My question is, does almost 18% FOC represent a good ratio, and is there anything to gain by going to a heavier arrow, and if so, should I try to maintain 18% FOC? Thanks, Steve (aka Stix)

Question; If you’re getting pass thrus on elk, what’s your goal ???? Pass thrus on Mastodons ????? You have great arrow speed for a longbow & I assume good arrow flight. My advice; Shoot the heck out of it & then shoot it some more.

Hi stix Sounds like your set up is working great, and no real reason to change your tackle. Most people who ( myself included) Dabble in the efoc realm ( my arrows are around 700gr+- tuffheads)trying to get a little extra penetration insurance if the arrow is slightly off mark and hits heavier bone than ribs ( shoulder blade / spine). Personal preference. Scout aka Ray
