It’s quiet outside and the sun has just gone down. Without warning a terrific exlposion is heard with a concussion echo. Then all is quiet once more. It sounded like an IED. I can understand this going on DURING the 4th of July festivities…but several days prior? I wish the local news media could use some brains, do a survey, and find out how many current and ex military folks are affected by that. If the general public had a clue, I’m sure they would tone it down a bit. Just a thought.

There have been some great documentaries on PTSD lately on HBO. In fact, the late , James Gandolfini, was the lead interviewer on one of them. One documented PTSD all the way back to civil war letters. It’s terrifying what war can do to a person. We’re just not made to do that sort of thing.
Thanks to everybody who has.

That’s very thoughtful Kevin. It must be rough for those fellows.

Both of my grandfathers are war heros to me.
My father’s father received a purple heart for his service in Korea. When he came back, he was never the same. For the last thirty years of his life, he never left his house.
My mother’s father lied about his age at 16 and saw the flag raised on Iwo Jima. He’s still alive and doing well, but I always wondered why we would take him to japanese restaurants when he visited. I would think a bunch of flames and a japanese guy throwing knives around would be a problem for him.
When listening to their stories, I’m just amazed that anybody can go through that. It’s probably my greatest fear.
Fireworks are getting rained out here. I’m glad. Can’t stand going to watch em.

There was a great piece on NPR today about this very topic. Ill try to find the link

I do feel for the folks out there that the noise bothers. I spent a month in the Philippines some years ago and every time I smell diesel smoke it takes me right back there… and I was a tourist. I can’t imagine how powerful that sensation must be when the reaction is trying to save your life in the memory that someone was trying to take it from you.
Fourth of July rings loud for the vets with me as do the other military holidays. I wish you all the best and the peace and quiet of the forest. best, dwc

Comments were delete in this thread, not because I disagree with the posters, but because they became too political in nature. 8)
We support our troops 100% and thank the men and women who have fought hard for our freedom.

I see your point Robin…but it was pretty good while it lasted!!!

😉 Thanks for the vote of confidence. Scary to think what could happen…
There are a few hours a day that I don’t work, so some things slip through. My job is much easier when the posters openly admit that their post should be deleted. 😀 Brennan, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Lots of folks are wondering what they missed. 8)
I want to know why lively posts come up over a 4 day weekend. What is up with that?

Robin — Extended happy hour. 😛

Dang, I miss all the fun.

Hey Robin–hears an idea for you–underneath # posts list # of deletes at end of year highest number donates $100 to charity of your choice. That might help in keeping some of us opinionated a–h— in line and make your job a little easier–ahh but you have to start from today as I think I’m well up there already8)

Hahaha! 😆 You guys keep doing what you do and I’ll let you know if it needs a filter.
Our guidelines are pretty simple. Stick to traditional archery and you’ll be okay. Avoid politics, religion, other forms of hunting (compound/crossbow/guns), arguments and selling items in your posts. It’s always those “gray areas” that get folks in trouble. 😉

Years ago there was a guy on the Marlin Owners Forum who signed off with something like this: “Be kind to everyone you meet — you have no idea what battles they are fighting.” That sort of fits right in with the Golden Rule as I understand it.
