Could we see some of your pictures taken at Kalamazoo this weekend? I couldn’t make it, but I would love to see pics of vendors, PBS, trad bow mag booths, along with pictures of yourself hanging out with others, especially bowyers, writers, bowhunters, tradbow members, etc…? Thank you!!:D

It’s the tropical weather I’m mostly looking forward to. 😛

I’m not looking fwd to the tropical weather of St Thomas USVI where I’m flying to tomorrow. I’m not joking, I’d much rather be at Kzoo! 😥
But it’s time to make the doughnuts, and I gotta go!!
So, please post pics, Dave, ok?

Great idea for a thread – since I can’t be there, it would be great to at least see what’s going on.

Hopefully it won’t be too miserable…err, I mean “tropical!” 😆

We have to remember that Alex hails from the same alpine Alps locale as Otsi the Ice Man. Consequently he finds steep hard hikes to frozen peaks irresistable, and his favorite hunting is in snow and cold. But then, he is a jazz musician and we all know they are utterly insane. 😛

Wait a minute there!! Switzerland and Western Europe in general is a blessed by a mild, tempered climate bathed by the Gulf Stream. I never experienced sub-zero real cold until I arrived in the USA, namely Boston. But, I do like near freezing weather much more than Summer, and there’s a Swiss proverb that says: “there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing!” Otsi, our fur-clad Austrian/Italian neighbor knew that way back then!!:D

Well, you won’t see the TBM booth until Saturday. Ice storms in Idaho and Utah have grounded us in Salt Lake. We won’t get to Kalamazoo until late tomorrow night. Alex, I would trade you for the tropics in a heartbeat!

So…how about those pics?
I understand it’s a “trad” gathering, so daguerrotypes, or even etchings, are fine too….

Hello? any pictures? Anybody?

I didn’t take any pictures of the weekend at Kzoo but will give a short report. It was my first time to the expo, and it was fantastic. The thing that impressed me the most was the friendly, and brotherly, tone of the event.
There were a few highlights for me personally:
1. Spending the weekend in the Java Man Archery booth with bow-master Gregg Coffey and my amigo Dave Petersen was worth the trip. We talked about bows, hunting, food, books, and good looking…bows.
2. The vendors were so down-to-earth, and low pressure regarding selling their products. Some of the folks such as Joe (owner of TuffHead broadheads), Carlton Matteo (knife/tomahawk craftsman), Roger Norris/the Asbells, Chris (Two Tracks Wool), Blake F (Eclipse Broadheads), and Larry (H and A Archery) were very nice, helpful, and great to talk with. There were many others, but those were the ones that I got to interact with the most.
3. Meeting the TBM folks face to face was great. I really enjoyed meeting Don T, TJ, and Robin. Great folks, indeed.
4. Meeting and talking with fellow trad bow hunters was fun. To see folks from all over the US and Canada (some of whom have accents even stranger than my Arkansas drawl:D) who share the same passion, and love to talk about it was encouraging. I was amazed how friendly, warm, and engaging folks were.
The thing that suprised me the most — which Dave and I discussed at length — was the average age of the attendees. I expected a good number of the folks to be my age (41), however it appeared that most were a decade or two older than me. The positive side is that there is a great deal of knowledge and experience within this “seasoned” group. The opportunity that exists, at least in my opinion, is for us to deliberatly recruit more younger folks into the tribe so that they can benefit from the experience and wisdom of you all, as well as to continue to pass our passion on to the next generation and build its future.
It was a great trip and good time. I wish that we had one in the summer as well…in a locale with nice weather and near some good trout streams. 😉

Nice report, JodyS, Thanks!!

Alex, you take more pics than most of us. You’ll just have to go to Kzoo and take your own! In fact, Jerry would do really well to walk around with a video cam, with sound, and put together a little video sampler of the event that we could post. It might double participation … but geeze, on Saturday, the big day, you already have to turn sideways to squeeze through the crowds. Of course, that’s when it’s the most fun. There were two shooting ranges this year, and still there was a really long line at both. While I detest flying, especially in winter when everything goes wrong, and apologetically can’t rave about MI weather in January, still it’s something I’d really enjoy doing every year. I mean, everyone is always smiling. 😀

……………….. ❓ ❓ ❓
Still haven’t seen any pics. Smithhammer and I (and probably a bunch of others) are waiting. 😆
Be well.

Sorry fellows, I didn’t take a single picture. There was a really nice fellow named Chad that took lots of pics on Friday and Saturday. I think that he said that he would post some. I don’t know if he is a member of this forum, or is on another trad bow forum.

Hi everyone, I’m back from the archives. I brought my camera with me, but was too lazy, and left it in my vehicle. 😳
On the positive side though, it was a pleasant surprise to finally get to meet Don and Dave, in the flesh. 😀
I can’t wait until your film comes out, Dave!

Welcome back, Patrick and try to stick around for a while this time, eh? For newer members who don’t recall Patrick, he was among our very first regulars here, a mainstay of good humor and thoughtful opinions (sorta like me?). And then life came and took him away, for a while. You’ll like the crew we assembled in your absence (not necessarily due to your absence, but who knows?). I enjoyed meeting you at Kzoo too. The “zoo” part was sure right on Saturday–what a happy mob of folks! Dave

Welcome back, Patrick. For professional reasons, I’m fairly glued to my computer a lot of the time, so I’ll be watching for your posts. All the best, david, ada dwcphoto

Good to have you back, Patrick!

Bear in mind that I ALWAYS take a camera EVERYWHERE. But we were overloaded, and Lori, who is usually even more compulsive than I am about this, suggested leaving cameras behind. Major mistake for many reasons. Anyway, no photos from us, and I apologize. Don
