Went to the mailbox today, as usual a “insert-major-fishing-brand-name-store-from-Missouri-here” catalog, pffffft, no interest, but UNDER that one was a 3RIVERS catalog….let the excitement begin….

Went to Cabella’s last week to see about spending some birthday money I had left over on some sort of sporting good item there. Decided to visit their archery range and test drive a Martin Savannah I’d seen there in 55# range. But much to my surprise they had discontinued this longbow.

I then shopped around the store to see if there was anything else to my liking, but really couldn’t find anything that caught my fancy. Needless to say,I left without buying anything….Yes, I too am spoiled by our choice of hunting. Should go through the 3Rivers’ catalogue again. I already bought a book by Dave and TJ with some of the money. Good investments!

I have a Cabela’s near me too and love to browse but don’t usually spend much it seems. Zero in the way of Trad gear which is fine by me as I really favor 3Rivers. Their customer support is second to none and products are the best available.

By the way I have read many of Dave and TJ’s books and love ’em. Well worth the money.

Seldom– your avatar photo makes you look a lot like Ed Abbey! And your name sounds vaguely familiar. Small world filled with coincidence, I guess. 😛 Even the old blue truck in the background sure resembles the one Ed and I used to cruise around the LaSals above Moab in. Like this July 4, 1987 …

When I was a wee youngster, fishing/hunting-stuff catalogs were extremely exciting. All the fancy lures guaranteed to catch fish, fancy camping gear, cool! And fishing and hunting magazines were what I read most. Now-times I go to Cabela’s to find the stuff I’m interested in and find myself, like ya’ll, not buying a durned thing, ‘cept maybe a copy of Trad Bowhunter Magazine or some feathers. Their stuff just looks cheaply made and overpriced compared to the glossy pictures in the catalogs. And their traditional archery supply is relegated to a couple shelves and a few bows that seem to have been abused to no end. Guess I’m just not in their demographic as far as customer-base goes! I’d spend money their if they had something I wanted to buy. I’d rather shop at Mom and Pop’s Archery and talk with people who know what a “old fashioned” bow is all about and what arrows I should use with it. So when does my next trad catalog arrive?? The other ones are plumb wore out!! Wouldn’t do it any other way! Color me trad!
