So it’ s that time of year to try and organize the fall hunting gear into some sensible storage. I get worse at this every year! It’s like the tide went out about now even though I try to be a minimalist. You know how you see these guys with pegboards in their garages with an outline drawn on it where a tool goes? I’ m not quite there yet! Do you pick at it over the next few months or just slam bam get it done? I’ll have a burst of energy on some cabin fever winter weekend. What’ s your MO whenever (assumption for most) your season is wrapped up?

I keep most of my clothes in space bags. Heavy duty plastic bags with a vent you can open, place the vacuum hose over it, and suck the air out. If you fold your clothes neatly, the bags will shrink down pretty flat for easy storage.
I usually store most of my gear after turkey season closes.

Put it away? It’s time to take it back out and get ready for Fall 2013, it’s right around the corner!
I am making arrows like a fiend, and getting ready for my weekly shoots at the range nearby. I’ve already been playing with maps, scouring the end of year deals at archery shops, and I’ll re-condition my Danner’s so that they are ready for the seeps up in the high country. I hate the thought of putting any of it away really, much to the discontent of the little Mrs. Don’t wake me up yet Mom. 😀

I cannot hunt at my House. All my hunts are expeditions as it were. I keep all my Camping/Hunting/Field Gear in WP{waterproof] containers, Bags or Packs marked accordingly. Depending on type, they reside in a shed or the garage. when I return from the field I replace any equipment as needed, and put the bags up -thus all I have to do when ready to hit the trail, is throw them in the truck and Ride.
Since I am on the road alot, I also have a set of Gear specifically for Survival/ltwt camping/Scouting: if I get a break while traveling or where I am working, to hunt or just be a woods bum. Takedown Bows are handy for this—

Well, truth be told, I can’t exactly hunt at my house either! I keep most of my gear up in Idaho at a buddies house where we get to stay during the season. I do keep a set of camouflage here for Turkey season, and pig hunting though. I wish I could hunt more and work less!

I have a big closet in the cellar for all my hunting clothes. WAY too early to put them away as small-game doesn’t end until the end of February. And then there’s still stumping to be had.
The shooting gear: I shoot every day either indoors or out all year round so that never gets put away.

Aside from some wool for cold weather, I don’t really have specific hunting gear. I have clothes that I wear year round that turn into hunting gear when seasons open. In the cold, top that off with wool layers. Those can go in a box in the shop corner. Otherwise, I shoot/practice with the same stuff all year.

bow, arrows, gloves, leafy suit ( in case of a quick Jersey hunt) arrow making stuff, Black box target etc.. stay in my NY city apartment. I live in a floor-thru Harlem Brownstone, 25 yards deep between front-of-house window and the back one… plenty of distance to practice!! 😀
Hunting clothes are stored at my daughter’s house in the Hudson Valley, in plastic bins. Wool clothes are stored in an old rigid cardboard round bin with metal lid. I don’t know how you call those things, but they work great!

Alex –
Way Cool ! Shooting inside your house in Harlem and 25yds to boot! I am curious at the term “floor thru”? like a studio apt/house?

Hunting clothes go in a Rubbermaid bin with a few cedar blocks. There is no “off season” for the rest of it.

Scout,
brownstones are townhouses. A floor-thru place means the apartment runs thru the depth of the structure, usually from the street-side front, to the backyard-side back. Most of them are 17 or 22 feet wide, and 15 to 25 yards deep, and have 4 stories.

Thanks – got it.
Do you hire out your Human ATV services, drop camps/game pick up etc — haha – there have been times in the past I sure could have used the help!
PS sending PM

Alex, I believe down south they call a house or apartment in that configuration a shotgun house, because you can shoot a shotgun in the front door and out the back without hitting anything. dwc
Oh yeah, Alex, do you ever go stumping in Central Park? For years there was a big, old, dead, beautiful tree in Washington Park, but they took that down several years ago.

Huh, I don’t think the NYPD would be too pleased to see me stump shooting in Central Park. It could definitely give me some free publicity on the local news. I can see headlines:
“Musician playing hunger games instead of frisbee in city park”!:D

Maybe if you heisted one of their horses first you could get some real headlines! dwc
