Anyone on here know if there are makers of nocks for carbon arrows that do NOT snap on the string?

        If so, do tell, please?!

How much the nock snaps on your string mostly has to do with how big your string is. If the fit is tight, it will snap more. That said, you might consider:

          – Some nocks have wider throats than others. You could try some different brands to get the fit you want.

          – You can sand the narrowest part of the throat of your current nocks to make them fit less tightly.

          – You could use a thinner string, or reserve your current string with a thinner serving.

          Hope this helps.

            Thanks for that input…

Pretty familiar with all that. “Throat” has been redefined to me to mean the small round part at the base of the nock. “Calipers” is a term one string make uses to identify the “ears” on the nock.

If you fit the nock to the THROAT (defined as above)then the “ears” are tight. I like a nock that holds on the string when pointed “down” but will release with a light tap.

The old Mercury nocks did not SNAP on, but with compounds, SNAP nocks became the norm.

I’m curious if there are any Carbon-fitting nocks that are NOT snap nocks, similiar to the old Mercury.

Serving thickness is key, yes. But working with a string maker, how a nock is desired to fit is hard to put into words, so non-SNAP nocks would help, if they fit carbons WITHOUT having to use nock adapters that add weight and mess up foc. Tall order, but thought i’d ask! 🙂

I cant offer much help on the nocks. But you mention a “string maker” so i thought I would extend on the comment above about reserving. researving a bow string cost only pennies, takes only 5 minutes, and you can customize the thickness with different serving thickness and how tight you wrap it. so it might be an easier solution. all you need is a serving jig (just a couple bucks) and serving of your choice. plenty of videos on youtube about how to do it. Its very easy to do and learn. you might even be able to tell your string maker you dont wnat serving on your strings and they might give you a dollar off or something as well.

Very good point, Jason. The custom string builder serves under hydraulic tension and he wanted to have them back to do some investigation.

Secondly, paying for a brand new string, then slicing off the serving gave me the heebie-geebies, so I agreed to return them.

Actually, the question was his own. Whether there is a nock where the throat and (as he calls them) “calipers” were closer in size than some mfg supplied nocks on carbons.

I’m waiting to hear cause we did some R&D on the issue, but nocks I use fit on his string just fine, not mine. We even exchanged videos of the nock fit and tap off scenario.

So I’m just going to reserve to suit myself once he removes the serving.

Seems the Eastor 3D Super nock is pretty straight with out a much larger throat “hole” at the bottom.

                Thanks for your post!
