Well, aren’t I a lucky kid. Courtesy of Mike Herdering, and by extension Dave Petersen, I’ve become the owner of this beautiful little bow…

Prairie Rattler skins on back. Brown stained birch burl in belly. Riser is Walnut Dymondwood. Elk antler handle and tip overlays. Limb core is actionboo.

        Thanks guys.

                      Mike,

It’s almost done. I might hang on to it for a while though! 😈

Love that bow! It reminds me of a bow I had in my possession for a short while a few years back, just before all hell broke loose. 😥

Congrats on that stick! Nice bow and a bit of history to boot. I’m sure you’ll put it to good use. Send us some photos of you shots and maybe post a short video in the form thread so we can bear witness! dwc

Thanks for the kind words fellas, it sure is a piece of art. And naturally, Gregg gets a big thanks 😉

Mike and DWC, I had just spent a large portion of yesterday going through my stock of remnant shafts to find a match and some 65-70# Sitka Spruce tuned beautifully with a 190 grain head up front. But I’ve only got 3 of them left. I fletched two last night and left one bare for confirmatory tuning today, after which I was going to take some video.

Well, there I was kneeling by the target, my two fletched arrows and bare shaft piled neatly together and as I’m fiddling with the camera I hear a horrifying ‘snap’. I look to my target and there is my beautiful little 2 year old girl smiling at me with the back half of a sitka spruce arrow in her hands. I guess she was trying to pull it out for me and judging by her smile she thought she had succeeded.

To cut a long story short, I thought I shouldn’t shoot either of my two remaining tuned arrows in the mood I was in, so instead stoked up a peace pipe and reread one of my favourite chapters from a Don Thomas book and cooled off.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll get a very short video up, shouldn’t take long to shoot two arrows 😉

Congrats Jim. She is a beautiful bow. I am looking forward to a video of it in use as well. I enjoy my Coffee bow tremendously and he makes a true peice of art. Not sure you will run into this problem as I did but going to a Shrew (I have an Elk Heart) from my bear kodiak took a while to get used to. It was a good month before it felt like the bear did before i switched. But that is purely a personal thing. I had only shot the bear and had done so daily for 4 years. So an adjustment period was to be expected I guess. Hope you enjoy it and have a great experience. Shoot well!

Man, I love looking at beautiful bows. Never get tired of it.

Thanks for the pics Jim, and the rest of you – let’s see what you’re shooting!

Jim, I’m glad “Elkheart Too” (my first Shrew Classic Hunter was “Elkheart,” so the “too” has double meaning as second and also “also,” as in “another of the same”). I went through a few of Gregg’s bows before settling on my current Java Man Elkheart takedown, and I loved them all. But I’ve long had a rule to own only one custom bow at a time in order to keep financial peace in the family. The one I rather wish I still had was a 52″ recurve, called “Li’l” something, that Gregg made for Shrew. The antler trim on your bow, Jim, is from an elk I killed here. Just keep it away from your strong daughter! 😀

I would go out on a date with that beauty! Treat her well.
