just committing to trad archery from compound, looking to build an arrow. i have a few questions if anyone cares to shed any light….

i have a 64″ 58@28 baraga, drawing around 29.5″. shelf cut 3/16 from center. i live in the yukon, so large game is my quarry (mostly moose, bear, elk and bou).

i want to build a heavy, high foc arrow. hope to use easton axis carbons. thinking it’ll be around a minimum of 31″ of carbon. want to go with a tuffhead 225, full adapter if i can, but i might get a trial pack of adapters. was going to foot 1″. hoping for 75g inserts.

too ambitious? too much point weight? a grizzly 185 was suggested to me as well. my ‘hypothetical’ arrow shows up being wickedly overspined on the 3rivers dynamic spine calculator. but when i look at others’ setups i see online it seems at least comparable. have had several very good tips, looking for more opinions.

would i be totally unreasonable to be thinking a 340 can do the job? or is this more a 300 spine job?

i hope to get a 340 and 300 with some tuffhead fieldpoints and various adapters and try to tune by cutting (assuming a dremel will do the job), but any opinions or insight towards my line of thinking would be appreciated.

aswell, i’m lost on fletching. was thinking 4x 3″ or 4″parabolics with helical, now after reading about ‘turbulators’ and 2.5″ feathers with straight fletching (why straight?)….

        …i’m an overthinker…..

sorry for the winded first message, just a trad newbie looking for guidance….

Try this as a start http://www.tuffhead.com/education/tuning%20the%20efoc%20shaft.html

Troy does a great job explaining and Doc Ed’s video at the end is very good–if you can understand his Texacan:D

Have fun it’s a great lifestyle.
