Looking at the new Aug/Sept issue of TBM, two articles strike me as stand-outs.
First is Thomas “T” Downing’s “Rise Up.” As a new writer (this is his second article, I believe), T has qualities that many old hacks like myself have to envy, including a natural sense for story-telling and a clean, fast-paced style that pulls you through the story, in this case a deeply poignant story, before you know what’s happened, and leaves you wanting more. Great work, Mr. T! Keep ’em coming.
Second is the long-overdue interview with Dave Doran of Archery Past. As the interview reveals, Dave is easily among the most dedicated and giving traditional archery tribal elders we have today. The man is just chock full of heartful goodness and generosity. And in another, younger life, Dave also saw the awfulness of Vietnam at its most brutal, as a Marine advisor stationed with the RoK Marines, among the scariest guys on the planet. Semper Fi, Dave, and thanks to Jerry Gowins for a great interview that will live a very long time in the trad archery and bowhunting world, I predict.
