Hello, I just joined and after 20 years hunting with rifle and compound (work has left no time to do anything but get my meat the quickest way possible), I’m taking up real archery again. The problem is my 50 year old shoulder doesn’t handle my 82# Bighorn anymore. I’m looking for 60 – 65# limbs for it
(it’s an old curved bed) and I understand the 4th or 5th buyer of Bighorn has called it quits. Does anyone know where’s a good place to look for used one?

There ae classifieds here on this site and at http://www.tradgang.com. The tradgang site’s classifieds gets allot of action. You might get lucky and find one on ebay also.

Bedrock — I love your term “real archery.” That’s it! But don’t look at me for sympathy for having to “drop” to the heaviest weight I’ve ever shot! And I used to be a weightlifter and trainer! Not knowing your financial situation but assuming you are trying to be thrifty, I strongly suggest that you sell that old classic elephant-bow and shop for a good used recurve — or reflex-deflex longbow — in your new weight range. You’ll come out ahead on both money and shooting satisfaction. For a personal example, maybe ten years ago I blew out a shoulder from shooting too much and had to drop 10 pounds in bow weight. Yet the new lighter bow shot 10 fps faster than the older heavier bow! One guy’s thots. dave

Thank you for the advice. I’ve almost decided on a Great Plains SR. Funny thing about the weight I can no longer pull. I hunted with various recurves when I was a kid and shot a lot. I also worked out as well as framing and finishing concrete but couldn’t begin to handle a 75lb Shakespear I tried. Then I spent a couple of years shooting 200 to 300 arrows a week with 80lb compounds and it enabled me to handle the Bighorn (82lb at my draw) witout much problem. So I guess compounds are good for something.
