My name is Matthew. I currently reside in NW Ohio. I hunt primarily in the hills of southern Ohio where I grew up. I primarily hunt Whitetails. Some day I would love to hunt elk out west.
I am married with three children. A fourteen year old boy, a twelve year old girl, and an almost three month old baby girl. The two older kids (step children) have expressed an interest in hunting. Hunter safety courses are in the works for them. I feel it’s a shame that they weren’t introduced to hunting before this. Better late than never I say.
I am an aspiring bow hunter (have yet to take an animal). I do currently shoot a compound bow. Despite that, my interest in traditional archery has been growing by leaps and bounds in the last few years. As soon as I get enough money together, I plan on buying a good longbow or recurve. I really like the bows made by Black Widow (PSR V), longbows by Great Northern, and Bear Archery.
I do own an older Bear recurve that was a gift from a friend. It is a Bear Tigercat made in Grayling. Unfortunately it is 38lbs at 28 inches. The minimum in Ohio is 40lbs
Thanks for having this great forum. I look forward to learning from all of you as I move into traditional archery and bow hunting.

Welcome! Be careful the simplicity of the stickbow is addictive!

Welcome, Matt! Sell that wheelie and the old Bear (the latter you can list on the classifieds here) and you’ll have the bucks to buy a good stickbow. Better to start with a good custom bow used, than settle for less in a new bow. Gonna be fun! 😀 Dave

Welcome,Matt! I’d go with the advice to sell your compound and loo for a good custom bow. You can look in the classifieds here or on Stickbow.com. Jump in, you won’t regret it. You’re in good company.:)
