I feel like the luckiest guy right now.

My brother in law introduced me to archery a couple of years after I arrived here from NZ.

Tried a few compounds, liked the feel of the Switchback, went to Texas, hogs, turkeys, all the usual stuff.

Did a couple of 3D shoots, sort of sniggered at the old guys shooting trad, seemed hit or miss, thinking about the great leaps and bounds of modern bow building. Why the hell would a man shoot a stick and string…

Found sites like this, read and read, got myself a 45lb Grizzly, loved it.

But now I think I have all a man needs, Staler stickbow recurve, 51@28″ and as of today a Brooks bow 44@28 long bow.

Just before dark I was able to get60 or so arrows down the back yard, both bows, Stalker really drives the message home, longbow, very accurate, a joy to shoot, would also get the job done, perhaps not a pass thru shot. Life is good, 3D shoot on Sunday out at Lake Henshaw,CA.

I wonder how much I’ll get for my seldom used DXT…….

          WEll, Kiwi,

After living “down under” you’re now on top and living high on the hog.

Guess your BiLaw didn’t tell you, this is an addiction and now t hat you’re completely infused with the illness, there will likely be a dizzying array of toys for boys (and girls) in your future.

          You want pass thrus???

Read the Friends of FOC forum and you’ll get them heavy front weighted shafts and razor sharp, do-it-yourself-sharp heads and watch em go thru critters at 51# like butter!

Enjoy the ride. Thankfully, there is no cure! 😆

Welcome to the wonderful world of traditional bowhunting!

The journey is amazing! There are no short cuts, but there is adventure around every corner of the process.

Gald to have you part of it. No other sport can bring a bigger smile. Have fun with it all.

              Welcome!

Virtually every person I’ve encountered who remembers shooting a bow as a kid (even those who only did it a few times in school) looks back fondly on the experience. None of them were using training wheels when they did it.

I really believe there is something inherently pleasurable in shooting with traditional equipment. And it can’t be nostalgia for those people who know nothing of the history of archery. “It” is just there, whatever its origins.
