My new Buffalo Bow came yesterday. I’ve wanted one for some time, but just haven’t gotten on the list. Well, Big Jim was running a sale, and I happened to check some bows he had in stock. Lo and behold he had one in the length and weight I wanted at a deal I couldn’t pass up, so I jumped on it. These bows are the picture of craftmanship, and quiet and fast! I loooove it. I wish I’d have ordered one a long time ago. The limbs are zebrawood, and East Indian rosewood in the riser/accents, with a beavertail grip.

Sweet! Big Jim sure makes a gorgeous bow. What are the specs?
-
Thanks. Yeah, the pics really don’t do it justice. It’s 60″ and 51@28.

What are the limb cores made of?
-
That’s a nice ‘un!

That’s a good question, Alex. I don’t know. I’ll check with big Jim.

That is a beauty. I won’t even ask if you want to store it at my place because those offers just keep being ignored. Congratulations on a beautiful bow. Happy hunting, dwc

Limb cores are bamboo. I love this bow more every time i shoot it. Thanks, fellas.

Looks beautiful mate. I was about to buy a second hand buffalo bow when the Shrew I bought came up. I’ve never read a bad thing about them 😉

You wont be disappointed if you buy one. Your bow is a real looker, too. Ive always had a thing for Shrews.

So now that you’ve had that beauty for a week or so, what do you like, and have you shot anything else you’d compare it to? Have you shot Jim’s Thunderchild? I love my T-child, but I’m really curious about the Buffalo – from everything I’ve heard, it’s not just a longer T-child, it’s got a different feel to it.

I love it, Smith. I’ve not shot a Thunderchild unfortunately, so I can’t compare the two….though the TC seems to be a more popular bow than the Buffler. My other longbows and selfbows are all 64-66″, so this “short” 60 incher feels really compact in comparison. And I’m not a speed guy, but because it is a pronounced r/d bow, it is really fast compared to my other bows.
One thing I immediately noticed about the bow was the thinner limbs and more substantial grip. That took a little getting used to, but I’ve found I prefer it to more of a Hill-style grip. Not to just gush about it, but the bow is just quiet and very smooth.
I will say I shot it initially without a bow quiver, but I much prefer shooting it with the extra weight attached. It seems to help stabilize it for me, and I shoot better with the quiver on. I’ve read a lot of comparisons between the Buffalo bow and the Black Widow longbows….they are a similar design. I really don’t know what I would compare it to, except to say that it shoots a little more like Etter’s BW recurve than my other longbows but without the bulk, if that makes any sense at all.

Not exactly “like” it, just similar in that are both loving women. However mine is slimmer, with more grace and balance, and nearly as fast (which is important in bows, too).

Great info, Tailfeather – thanks. I felt the same way regarding the grip when I first got my Thunderchild, but have since come to really love it. Especially on such a short bow, I find that the large, hand-filling grip really helps ‘control’ the bow and keep it from feeling squirrely, if that makes sense.
I’ve gone back and forth with a bow quiver on my T-child. In general, I really like not having quivers on my bows these days, but I probably shoot it a little more consistently with the added weight of the bow quiver.
Is yours a one or two piece?

Ok, now I really want one… 8)

Makes complete sense about the grip, I agree. I bought mine as a stock bow, but if I were to order another one I do think I’d go with the 58 incher. That’s actually what Big Jim recommended for my draw length (little shy of 27″).
Mine is a one piece.
So are we going to see you with a new bow soon? He’s still running that sale until next Monday…….8)

I just sold a bow and am also selling a pair of nice recurve limbs that I don’t use anymore, and it’s all going into a new Buffalo. I’ve been watching what Jim is putting up on the site, but none have been exactly what I’m looking for, so Jim is cooking me up something special right now. Since I alreeady have a 56″ T-child, I’m going to go a little longer on the Buffalo, probably 62″ or 64,” and around #53 lbs, 2-piece. Can’t wait, and this thread isn’t helping!
