New Broadhead Regulation for PA Hunters

I just received the 2014-15 Pennsylvania Hunting and Trapping Digest.Someone in the Game Commission must have been listening to the complaints about broadhead length. The NEW regulation has changed to 3.25″ instead of the 3″ that has been on the books for several years. TUFFHEADS are now technically Legal along with any other broadheads that doesn’t exceed 3.25 inches.

Me thinks Joe is giving PA law makers more than their due!

We have like 2x the amount of congress people at the state than any contingent state… per capita… so they have to have something to do and someone whispered in their ear.

I’m curious about something. Why would there be a law regulating the maximum broadhead length? I can’t quite seem to figure out the reasoning for this.

When I inquired about the 3″ broadhead regulation. I found out it was enacted right around the same time cross-guns were legalized during the general archery season. It seems they were concerned nimrods would be running around the woods with cross-guns cocked and such a long broadhead would impose a more dangerous situation if he/she were to slip and fall!!!! Go figure???? Probably had something to do with the major archery and cross-gun manufacturers lobbying in Harrisburg also.

About 4 years ago the PGC changed the language on definition of a broadhead to state “Broadheads must be manufactured from Steel” meaning primitive type heads napped from stone, obsidian etc. were illegal. When I brought that to their attention it was quickly changed and was never enacted.

Maybe they should have just required that crossbow shooters can only have rubber suction cup heads?

Bruce, seems to me that crossgunners DO have rubber suction-cup heads! No matter what they use on their bolts.

I saw that good news on the PAGC web page a while back. From what I was told, the limit of 3 inches was actually imposed to prevent mechanical heads that looked cool but worked very poorly. Congratulations, Joe! Now I’m a legal hunter….dwc

TuffHead had a lot of users in Pennsylvania before the change. I don’t know if they had any influence on the change but it is welcome . It is a good feeling to know that your equipment is now legal……Keep looking over your shoulder though… there might be a deer coming from behind.LOL:D:D

You better read your game laws COMPLETELY then, cause with that kind of logic, they probably banned carrying hunting knives LONGER than 3.25″. Sounds like some of the geniuses from CA moved out there. At least your assembly makes IMPROVEMENTS to your game laws. Ours only get worse.
