Well I am going to miss my favorite “find”, a mid 40’s Nels Grumley Take-Down Deerslayer.

When I first got the bow, it came with a wooden box with 4 dozen arrows and leather finger stalls.

one dozen of the arrows had Russel Hoogerhydes name on them, and an old newspaper clipping dated 1937, with his photograph, leading me to believe the bow was once his.

Russell was National Champion, 7 times in the 30’s and a exhibition trick shooter.

The bow itself is one of the most beautiful bows from the era I have seen, but then I dont get to see very many…

It is with heavy heart, I have told my friend “Bowdoc” to sell it on the auction site, hope whoever buys it appreciates it…

It would be nice if something like that ended up in a museum where many people could appreciate it, instead of squirreled away in some guys man-room.

If you donated it to a museum, you can set the value of the donation for tax purposes… You might end up further ahead as well as assuring the preservation of the bow…

My idea when I purchased it was to put my 4 arrow leather quiver, that screws into the hole on grip you see, with a Glen St.Charles, Fred Bear, Bill Sweetland, and M.R. James autographed arrows, in a display case, but paying my mortgage, and keeping a roof over the heads of my family is more important.

I been unemployed for over two years now, so “tax purposes” are the least of my concerns….
