Ok heres the deal. I have grown up in Montana and have shot some decent mule deer bucks with a rifle as a youngster. When I started bowhunting I really got into hunting whitetails and elk and for the last 13 years have been a trad only hunter. I have taken some decent Whitetails and bull elk with my bow but never a mule deer. 8 years ago I had a nice 180″ mule deer not 12 yards away at a waterhole while hunting elk but let him walk so I could hunt whitetails come the rut. Man do I have regrets. Now I am getting ready to move to Wisconsin and this will be my last season in Montana. I have started scouting for a nice buck I am looking for some thing 170+ this is not going to be easy I will be hunting high plains/brakes open country mule deer on public land or block management. in the next few months I will be setting up some trail cams on water holes and doing as much scouting as posable. as I get photos I will post them for you all to see. you are welcome to follow me along this quest and give me any tips that you can offer I am not a novice when it comes to bowhunting but I must admit I am not a open country spot and stalk mule deer hunter but it cant be much diffrent then elk right?

Good luck. Keep the post going. I really envy you “westerners”. You don’t know how good you have it until you are limited to a 200 acre public game land shared with every hunter for 200 miles around. Hope you can get that buck, but there’s always deer camp for your vacation next year. WI isn’t that far of a ride. 😀 (much closer than I am 🙁 )
