Got this deer at 4:35 pm January 1st, 2017 with my long bow.. 15 yard shot, 40 yard recovery. My 2nd bow deer after the Gun season. My first at our family cabin in northern Wisconsin. It was 25 degrees when I got it which felt warm compared to the minus 13 degrees when I got the other January deer 6 years ago 60 miles to the South near my home.

I have a friend who own’s an uninsulated and unheated cabin on a lake in Wisconsin a few hours east of St. Paul Mn as I remember. We hunted there 3 years in a row during the 2nd blackpowder week. Never did see anyone else hunting and those we met said we were crazy for even trying. Never did see a deer. Saw other peoples gut piles and lots of fresh deer tracks in the snow. Herded up an nocturnal by then was the consensus.
I guess you proved that consensus to be wrong. Nice deer!
Did I mention cold? Craaaaazy cold 😜

A good friend of mine who is also a naturalist that boils a lot of animal skulls for schools and nature centers. Did the skull from this deer I thought it was a large yearling buck but it turn out to be a 1.5 year old buck that had already shed its antlers. He is very happy to have the skull for his collection when giving talks to groups about Whitetail Deer.
