There’s a ton of music in my library, but you’re gonna be hearing pink floyd on most mornings. If you don’t like it, you can find another ride.
In fact, I listen to pink floyd about 40% of the total time I’m listening to music.
Mark Knopfler and Widespread Panic take an equal second place.

I personally can’t get in hunting mode with any other music other than silence

ALEX, WELL SAID 😀

Quiet is the best music, but if I really feel like listening to some kind of noise on the way to the blind I like Mark Baker.:D
AC/DC, Ratt, Nickel Back or any hard rock will be for city driving, especially during rush hour.:x
Steve Miller, Eagles, or a little Toby and Willy for long drives or just tulin around in my jeep. 8)

I guess that when I’m in an Eagles kind of mood you’ll have to find another ride:D

Lol. I love Rush, so we probably have a lot of differences in musical taste.:D

Gotta have a little Fire on the Mountain and Sugar Magnolia by the Grateful Dead. Also, the local NPR station plays jazz in the wee hours of Saturday mornings. So, on my early morning commute to my hunting grounds, I usually get Miles, Coltrain and Billie Holiday to ride shotgun.
Widespread Panic is usually in cue if not playing.

Is it hard being a living cliche?

His mind is not for rent! To put him down is arrogant!:D

Thank you Scout! Since you must listen to music while going to the field, :D, know that I just finished my new record, and that it will be coming out in early Spring. It is indirectly celebrating my passion for Traditional Archery and Bowhunting:
It is called “Moment Of Truth”, and I even have a short piano solo piece called “Fall”. I’ll keep you posted!

Alex –
Great! -Looking forward to it !
I especially enjoyed “love Season” on ultimate –
“Fall” seems an appropriate title for the album and it fits right into this thread –haha

Well shucks, Scout stole my thunder. Alex is the man to set the proper mood for a day of meditative hunting. But I’m still waiting for him to make the keyboard bugle like I can do on my native American flute. Maybe we should play a due to the wapiti? :P:lol:

Dave –
Sorry — “First to Fight” — haha
I think a Duet — an ode to the Wapiti – of Piano and Flute would be just the music to get us prepared for the coming Elk Hunts!

Alex, I look forward to hearing your new record. I’ve youtubed you a few times and like it.
For the rest of my musical taste, mood has a lot to do with it. Quiet on the way to the woods is primary, though. Afterward, could be jazz, might be Neil Young, Pink Floyd is a treat and the list goes on. Oh yeah, I have to mention Tom Waits and Gil Scott Heron. Salute to the poetry found in music in words and notes. dwc

This link will take you to a video of Alex performing one of his own compositions…

Now think of those same fingers tightening on the bowstring as he’s drawing on the turkey in his avatar photo. He’s the only hunter I know who has been successful at stalking turkeys. I did it only once, many years ago, but with a shotgun. 😕

Wow!!! Now if I just had a scotch on the rocks I’d be set for the afternoon.
That’s a fine sound Alex.8)

That video was real good. When it first came on it looked like the bass player was playing a slide. I listen to a lot of music if I am traveling to hunt lately I am listening to Brian Auger on Pandora at home seems to be a good mix and that jazz video made me think of it . Great job Alex . Will look for new lp

Yes! “My Old 55” and “The Piano Has Been Drinking” in the first case, and “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” (Ray-gun, Zap!) in the second. Recovering Marines must think alike!. (Assuming we think at all.) 😛

Clap Hands, Jockey Full of Bourbon…heck, the entire Rain Dogs lp by Tom Waites.

Yes, those are some great tunes. A lot of folks are listening to Waits and might not know it, as he’s been covered by a lot of the more mainstream bands, including the Eagles.
I’ve been a Waits fan for many years, but have never seen him in concert. Quick story. Waits played at Penn State while a friend was a student there. His guitar was misplaced and asked the students who were helping set up the stage if he could borrow a guitar. My buddy’s roomate ran back as fast as he could brought Waits his Martin guitar. Waits took one look and it and refuse, saying it would just sound too nice. He borrowed an old Sears guitar instead. After that he laid down in the middle of the stage while they finished setting up and took a nap on the floor. dwc

My friend and band member Vincent Henry, who is a sort of jack of all trades, playing guitar, banjo, all saxophones, flute, bass clarinet and harmonica, yup, all in one show, and playing all of them incredibly well, also plays with Tom Waits from time to time. the last time was 2010 and 2011. He also plays with Hugh Laurie the actor/musician. Vinnie is a baaad cat!! check him out on the tube. He also enjoys my hunting stories and pictures, and although being vegan, he loves opening my (full) freezer and is always in awe of the piles of dark red vacuum sealed packages!!:D
