Did some more still-hunt-turned-spot-and-stalk on a new to me piece of land Saturday. Found a nice (for around here) doe and a bonus squirrel. My zone tags are running low. Only got one more to last through the end of February. Might be time to whip up some dowel rod rabbit arrows to pass some winter time. Good day!

Nice hit on that squirrel! (And, of course, on the doe.) I like that long ERC bow. Are you shooting stone points?

No, I am not. That is on my list of things to learn. These are Kodiak single bevels. I want to get to the point of making everything myself, but have not learned knapping yet. I’ll get there eventually. In the meantime, commercial points work very well. I have made some simple and functional small game points from assorted repurposed odds and ends, some of which would probably work on larger game, but I’m leary of trying them. I’d rather just use an expensive commercial head rather than try and push a marginal home made point through a full size animal.

Here’s a neat picture from the field dressing process. As you might imagine, the trail was rather short:

That rather cuts thru the heart of the subject, eh, Hoss? 😆

That has to feel good. Both shots were outstanding… to nail a tree rat like that is just amazing!

Thank-you all for the kind words. In all honesty though, I don’t take too many pictures of the shots that I miss. 😉

Actually, that is not quite true. I did juuuuuuust miss one the other day. Absolutely nothing at all on the arrow…except two hairs just stuck in the fletching glue joint:

And some dirt on the broadhead. Same arrow that got this doe (and the 8 point and button earlier this year). Just touched up the edge a bit.
