measuring draw length

Just got back into bowhunting in the past year and thinking of a new bow. I currently shoot a Martin recurve 60″ AMO, 55# @ 28″. If memory serves me correctly, when I bought it, the guy had an arrow marked off in inches like a ruler. I drew it back (apparently 28″ back) and he said “OK, 28 inches” and wrote that down. Other than that, I’ve never measured my draw length and assumed it was 28″ or thereabouts.

All the internet sites I look at say length is measured as: wingspan/2.5 or wingspan – 15″/2. Those calculations come up with a 25-26″ draw length for me. But then, all of these sites seem to referring to compound bows (horrors!).

So, in order to get this right, I’d appreciate a little light on what’s proper procedure in determining this measurement? Thanks

Draw length is measured from the bottom of the arrow nock to that point on the arrow which is even with the back of the bow at full draw.

The easiest way to determine your draw length is to draw your bow while you have someone mark your arrow with a pen even with the back of the bow.

Don’t get too hung up on numbers like these. As long as your arrow is long enough so that your broadhead stays off the arrow shelf, you are good to go.

Thanks Steve. I thought things must’ve changed since way back when. Those other procedures seemed a little too overboard…take something simple and complicate it. Thanks again.
