I recently bought a Herters recurve at a flea market, and after correcting a slight upper limb twist, and making a string for it, I now need to make an arrow rest.
This appears to be a target bow, to my thinking anyway, because the shelf has about a 15-20degree down slope to the side, NOT towards the back or belly, but towards the hand. From what I have seen this bow used a type of arrow rest that was made of some fairly stiff material that juts out an inch or so.
I have considered taking the band saw to it and making the shelf more “instinctive friendly” but I think I would prefer to keep it as designed.
My question to you guys is, what material do they use for these rests, or are they already made somewhere and being sold?

Does no one else remember those rests? The only way I can describe it is they were like how the bristles in a tooth brush are bundled together then put in rows. This rest would be like one of those bundles sticking out sideways just above the shelf.

I have a book somewhere that tells how to make one. It involves an old .22 shell and brush fibers. I’ll dig it if you want to make one. It also involves drilling a hole in the side plate above the arrow shelf…

They’re called brush restd. Black Widow sold them a few years ago. Check their web site. They may still have them in stock.

This bow already has the hole there, thats why I’m pursuing this tye of rest. The shelf design pretty much precludes anything else, unfortunately.
I will check the Black Widow site, thanks.
If no luck there, I will post again, maybe the 22 trick will work.

3rivers sell a stick on variety of brush rest.

We ran a Tip of the Week a while back on How To Make a Toothbrush Rest if you are interested in making your own.

Thanks “mom” that is exactly what I was looking for. I remember that tip (now) and it will do just fine.
