This video, link below, is mind-boggling even for non-archers. For those of us who are archers, it’s downright humbling … yet uplifting re the things a few rare humans are capable of accomplishing. I don’t think we’ll be seeing any such from a mechanical “bow,” much less an x-gun. The vid starts right up so be sure to have your sound on and be ready. How I’d love to talk to this remarkable machine-gun archer! I wonder if this had anything to do with the Mongols conquering the known universe?

That’s amazing. I’ve read Catlin’s accounts of Native shooters, but seeing such action live (and with accuracy, no less) is numbing. Wow!

Wow…..I’d like to put that guy on my “Bloody Ridge” stand with a pocketful of antlerless permits.

Getting the arrows in the air is difficult enough, the accuracy is also there. Wow! And all with trad gear. Simply amazing. Thanks for sharing. Be well.

Very interesting rapid fire techniques of Archers. No wonder the Mongols ruled for as long as they did with there style of mounted archery.

No fixed anchor point… unbelievable! Great find, Dave.

Notice the woman in Murmansk is using a two fingers OVER draw?

The otiginal shooter, still still impressive, looks to be shooting a 20# bow.

I prefer one good shot. 😉

And to think that this actually pales in comparison to what their ancestors were capable of. No wonder the peoples of the Eurasian Steppe terrified the armies and people of Western Europe, time and time again – the Scythians, the Huns the Mongols and others.

Now imagine that rate of fire (or faster), with 100+ lb bows, while on horseback at full speed, swarming like deadly bees in no strict, regimented fashion as the Western Europeans adhered to, and then multiply that by 10,000 and sometimes many, many more. The coupling of the finest horsemanship known at the time, combined with the finest archers on the planet, produced armies that were unbeatable. It wasn’t until the widespread use of gunpowder that more effective armies existed.

I would highly recommend the recent 4-part Hardcore History series on the Mongols for anyone interested (and an earlier episode called “Steppe Stories.”

If you like to read about that time I can recommend a historical fiction series about the Khans by Conn Iggulden.
