Well it finally happened…Finallly! After trying hard for 4 years to kill a turkey with my longbow, it happened. Everything in the world has conspired against me killing one of these crazy birds. From my wife unknowingly walking into my set-up with the kids on our place just as a big gobbler was making his way to me to a military helo buzzing my field…from bad misses to a single wounded bird that I was sure I made a good hit on I have endured. I made a perfect shot and he was flopping within’ 20 yards. I wouldn’t change a thing getting to the destination however 😀

          Great job!

It is year number 6 for me on public land with no blind….maybe one day I can feel how you feel right now!

Going to try again this weekend. Maybe!?!?!?!

          Awesome achievement!

Wapiti, that is awesome! These birds are a very sharp customer breed!! I can only hope that my day too will come. Going out tomorrow morning to try to beat the weekend warriors!

                Nice Work!

wapiti792 I was wondering what you used for your setup and what sort of penetration you had on your bird? I have heard Turkeys are tough birds and am curious what works best.

Guys it was a Kanati Longbow, 49# at 28, 60 inches. I draw to 30 so around 55#. I was using a GT Blem 75-95 arrow with a 100 gr brass insert and a 250 gr Ace Broadhead. Total arrow weight 700 grains. The broadhead was shaving sharp, and it hit the bird quartering away right at the wingbutt and exited at the base of the neck. The exit was a mess and the arrow buried in a rotten stump behind the bird. I love heavy weight forward arrows, sharp broadheads, and hitting my spot 😀

Killed my first “blindless” bird last Saturday in KY. After a ghille hunt I will be hard-pressed to ever get in a blind again. It was too much fun!

Man, you’re a machine! I’m still the proud owner of two unfilled tags, (only two allowed per hunter in the spring).
