This is a 68″ Tembo and I plan to dispense with carrying a stool for ground hunting from now on. Turns out the equipment was not the handicap…it was the shooter:lol:
Too rainy to shoot outside so I am in the basement.
Short bows….who needs ’em:twisted:

Did you got target ?
That’s the point isn’t it?:P

As long as you’re happy, what else matters???!
I like a 60″ myself…and have one 56″ that is sweet in tree stands…and brush. I don’t hunt it much, but it is interesting. I can “understand” the draw of shorter bows…this one doesn’t give me finger pinch at 28.5″…but I hear that can be an issue.
You done well sitting flat on your behind! If I shot that well, bent over on my butt, I might change my view… but for now, that long a bow would make a fine pistol rest!:roll::oops:

As much as I enjoy shooting my 66-inch selfbows (including from a Hammock Seat), you’d be hard-pressed to find two trees that far apart here in New Hampshire.
The rack here includes a 52-inch K-Mag, 56-inch Grizzly, 58-inch Morrison Dakota, two 60-inch Kodiaks, one 60-inch Super Kodiak, and two 66-inch selfbows. (Yeah, I have a problem, and no, I’m NOT working on it. 😆 )

I think it’s a really good position to practice from for hunting. I also practice a fair bit while kneeling and sitting on a low stump in the backyard.

Ha. At some point when there isn’t snow on the ground, I’ll shoot a quick vid doing the same with my 64″ longbow (the longest bow I’m willing to own… )

I’m pretty sure H Hill said he would just about lay his bow flat like that for short shots. And in my little experience, sitting with your back against a tree is one of the best ways to see things in the woods (as long as you can resist dozing off.. not one of my strong points). So shooting a bow like that while sitting seems a perfectly natural, and wonderful way to send an arrow 😉

At the end of John Schultz’s video here, he has some technique for really tired Aussies.:D

R2, that’s a great series of archery demonstrations. Thanks for posting. dwc

Those Schultz videos are classic.
When Greg posted this last week, I thought it might be April or May before I could get some seated shots outside again without sitting in snow. But it’s warmed up quite bit this past week, and as you can see, what was a foot and a half of snow in the yard last week is mostly gone.
Figured I’d take advantage of it, and practice some shots while sitting; 12 yds. from the target, with a 64″ longbow. What surprised me in looking at the video afterward was that my cant angle was not as extreme as it felt like when I was actually shooting. Good practice…
A few other things I’ve noticed from shooting this way:
1) Not too surprisingly, this is a limited mobility shot. I can rotate about 50deg. to my left and still get a more or less proper draw, but I can’t move to my right much at all, without it being a difficult shot to execute properly. A good thing to remember when I’m setting up for hunting.
2) I have to be mindful to rotate my draw hand so that it is still in alignment with the string at full draw. It’s easy to keep my hand more vertical than the string is, and by doing so torque the string.
3) Maybe it’s just me and what I’m used to, but this seems like an easier shot/position with a longbow than a recurve. I’ll have to try it someday with my recurve and see if it’s just mental or not, but I suspect it has something to do with the grip style of a traditional longbow, making it easier to rotate to different angles with more cant?

been there, done that. Closest my behind is going to get to the ground is the hammock seat.

I can always count on a smile in the evening from your posts. But don’t you remember from your jarhead days ladies wear pants and men wear trousers.
And they do git dirty or at least after a multi-week patrol they tend to rot off the body:shock: darn cheapest bidders.
Shot the bow today–at a string in the garage–cold windy and wet outside.:D Wojo and Brennan be ready:twisted:
-
Col, you wouldn’t believe how many times I got reminded that those were not britches they were trousers.
I wore britches all my life til the Corps. Finally I learned the difference after a couple thousand push ups. 😀
My cap was troublesome too but I learned about covers rather quickly. MCRD has this nasty thing called “Swimming in the sand”.
-
Jason–range is classified but you have been in my garage. And you don’t need to “harvest” a deer. You need to hunt and maybe kill a deer.:D
Ralph
Yeah I used to think as a Lt. all that bull about trousers pants hats covers caps and stuff was just that bull. So when I pinned the eagles on I made it a point to use all the wrong descriptions–even had the audacity to carry an umbrella in the rain:shock: But the troops loved it. And that’s all that matters.
Now wash your pants now and then:lol:
-
Hey Mike, notice I compromised:D even if a push up is now a thing of choice instead of being a thing of on demand.
Umbrella? That’s a kind of “cover” right?
To keep archery in mind here, only trying to keep your feathers dry. Full bird ones, right.

Ralph, that pic is a vivid reminder of the thorny environment I’m headed back to next month!
And, it’s also a fun reminder of my childhood – harvesting prickly pear fruit and making nopales!
-
Doesn’t take long to figure out that it’s a smart thing to burn those little “hairs” off that fruit before you chomp down on one uh?
I tried mashing some of those once in an attempt to use the juice to dye some white feathers.
Apparently I did something wrong cause I had the biggest mess, my wife didn’t appreciate the purple stain everywhere and my feathers didn’t turn out to well.
I’ll leave that to the expert and do without purple fletchings.
-
Yeah, we stuck to making jelly out of the fruit. And, of course, throwing them at each other…
Gotta love the evolution of threads like this…
