Ok, i need to get my inserts out of my carbon arrows. They are glued in tight. With aluminum, i just used to heat them up and they’d come right out when the glue got hot. I dont think i can heat carbon without damaging the arrow. How do I go about this? I need them outta there.
Thanks

Unfortumately, it depends on what glue was used to install them. With hot melt (like Fer-L-Tite) you can apply gentle heat to the tip of a field point (never the shaft itself) and remove the insert. With some types of epox or CA glue you’re either stuck with them or you may be able to pound them out, but that can lead to a lot of damage.

Assuming they’re not epoxied, take the largest diameter, heavy drill bit that will still fit into the shaft and slide easily. Take the nock off, and drop the drill bit in. Then lift the shaft up so the drill bit is sitting at the rear of the shaft, and swing it down forcefully, so the bit hammers the rear of the insert. You might have to do it a few times. I’ve salvaged many arrows that would otherwise have been a lost cause this way.

I’ve removed many a insert by screwing in a fieldpoint and only applying heat to it. This will allow the insert to heat up by transferred heat. I’ve even held a damp rag on the carbon shaft to help prevent overheating the shaft.
Heat a little and try pulling the insert by only pulling on the fieldpoint with pliers. It often takes several times to get the right amount of heat to break down the glue.
Yes, you do stand a chance of overheating and wreaking the shaft. Still, if you take your time it can be done.

Ditto troy’s response —
I have done the same thing to pull inserts from carbons of any of the “standard” companies who sell carbon arrows – with no problems — in fact a lot of times in the “Heat” of the SW{summer} just trying to pull arrows out of —ahh– poor hits in wood
tgt frames — has caused the inserts to depart -the shaft—
