I just replaced the leather grip on one of my longbows utilizing barge cement? the gripis leather on my schulz style longbow. well i measnered the leather and cut it to the same isze as the old grip leather but theres always abut isnt there? the new leather seemed to stretch once exposed to the glue. so my question is this even though it came out really nice it appeared to stretch in length if was was to trim about 1/4″ off the bottom will the hardened Barge cement coem off easily of will i damage the finish on my bow tryign to vlean it off. I wouldnt worry about it except it partially covers some of the bowyers information he painted on the riser which i covered due to the expansion of the leather.

Its one of those little htigns that just bugs the heck out of me outside that the handle came out excellent nice smooth black leather that wont ball up like Suede from my hand sweating. I had never replaced a grip before or used barge cement so im newby at this. ive now been shooting tradidionla archery over 50 years but never had to replace a grip before that was installed with barge cement. i just thoguht id throw this out there I dont want to damage the bow if it wont come off easuily ill just live with it and cut the handle leather smaller when i replace the grip on my other bow. Thanks

Barge cement is the go-to adhesive for grips because it doesn’t seem to damage the finish. At least I’ve never seen it damage one.

Anyway, after you adjust the grip as you want it, just rub your fingers over the glue and it will role off in little balls. It may not all come off at once, but be patient. Rub on it a little bit every time you shoot and eventually it will all be gone.

Some leathers have a bias, stretch one way more than another.

Deer skin has a lot of stretch.
