We’ve looked at speed shooting here before. And most of us have seen trick shooting. But the shooting demonstrated in this video is just flat incomprehensible. If I saw some of these “tricks” in a movie, I would laugh a and swear at the director, “You expect me to believe that BS, ho!”
But here it is. Watch in wonder. Of course, he’s a Dane 8).

What he can do with a bow is amazing.
-
I got that one and then another privately from friend in TX… amazing. Sent it around and was shocked that some trad types would denegrate it as circus clowning! The physical abilities of such martial arts type demonstrations is amazing to me…same as skilled craftsman who build ornate furniture by hand, or hand built custom musical instruments, bows, etc…
I could not do the moves, without a bow, let alone shoot… years of dedication and superior athleticism is all I see.
When it was what you had to wage war and defend home and hearth, you had to get good or die… tip of the hat!
-
A few minutes ago I thought I was…well good…
Now, I know I’ve been making bows wrong, and shooting wrong, and if I watch it again, I’m probably doing something else wrong. On the other hand Audrey tells me I know everything, I can do anything, and I have perfect form. Nothing else matters. 🙂
-
Yes Grumpy, believe Audrey! And do your best to prove her right. Coincidentally, my only grandchild (a well-kept secret)calls me Grumps.

When i win the Loto i will have time to get that good

Some of us were discussing this video the other day at the archery club. YouTube videos of amazing shooting are nothing new. They’ve been popping up for years, and most folks understand the difference between reality and carefully edited footage with misses piled up on the cutting room floor. They’re entertaining, but should probably be kept in perspective. The attached article sums up most of the conclusions we came to regarding this video, which I personally found more entertaining with the volume turned down so I didn’t have to hear several minutes of historical and factual inaccuracies.
-
J,
Great read as well. Thanks for sharing.

Some good points J. Thanks for sharing that link.

Saw this on another site. He definitely has some unique ability. What concerns me is the following response from an interview:
“Lars does not wish to compete, because he already knows he is the best”
Hmmm….how many think he’s so great now..
-
Well hmmm. I read the geek dad article and was getting ready to be disappointed with Lars. But I have to say I found the article rather disappointing. I was expecting claims of faking. While the article claimed there were probably many misses not recorded, the author did not claim actual fraud.
I thought the author sounded a bit shrill, and maybe a bit jellous. Additionally, if you are going to call someone out for being wrong it’s important not to be too wrong yourself. I thought his discussion of archers paradox was pretty far off the mark. He also stated that an arrow without a point wouldn’t travel very far. Another inaccuracy.
While I am sure there were plenty of misses left on the editing floor, there were plenty of sequences with multiple hits at pretty far distances too.
Whatever it took to make that video, my hat is off to Lars. While archery may have been about survival at one time, now it’s about having fun and improving yourself. Lars looks like he is having fun. The author of the geek dad article didn’t help anyone, including himself, with that article. I respectfully suggest that folks are taking the video too seriously.
-
I would second Steve and Ralph’s comments.
While some of his historical claims raised my eyebrow (and I’m generally a stickler for that), at the end of the day I think it’s all in good fun, and he’s clearly having fun with it. I think we could use more of that, lest we risk taking this whole ‘traditional’ thing way too seriously.
-
I’ve seen a few of Lar’s videos and find them fascinating and entertaining. I read the geekdad review and I suppose that anyone who touts themselve as an expert is asking for a challenge. While I’m not an expert I’d guess geekdad could also endure a few corrections, as well as challenges on his assumptions. I do know that I have to smile when I watch Lars shoot. It’s fun. Dwc

This article speaks to it all the best. (Love Snopes!):

Thanks, Patrick. I’m amazed how fast the fact-checking websites get on new issues. While they too are fallible, they tend to do a lot more research than we do here in expressing gut opinions. Do us, and truth, a favor and become the unofficial Tradbow fact checker, any time we’re discussing something that Snopes, etc. has commented on. In this case I never doubted that there were a lot of tries for every success recorded on camera. So what? Only if they claimed otherwise would it matter. It’s still mind-boggling and I’ll likely never shoot another bullseye without thinking about Andersen and feeling humbled.

Only as long as my word is considered infallible. 😆

I’ll throw another log on the campfire…
-
That’s a well rounded log you threw on. When I first watched one of Lars’ videos I just thought this is fun and didn’t take it too seriously. When the naysayers started, I thought they had lost their senses of humor. However, the guy did stick his chin out and therefore invited the resulting commentary, which seems a lot more thought out. Thanks for posting this last one Smithy. One of the things I like best is the figures in the background. Ain’t it a kick. dwc

I felt exactly the same, David. But the more I thought about his “historical claims” the more I had to roll my eyes at how absurd they were. However, just in case any of us is taking any of this too seriously:

It just keeps getting better. Love it. thanks, d

Well there’s two things for sure…
1. Lars sure got people stirred up, which ain’t a bad thing.
2. I’d sure like to get some archery lessons from that sweet
lass 😀 (I’d pay double as long as she keeps that arrow in
her mouth)
The second video was a hoot!
But really, as my daughter would say, “ya’ll need to chillax” It’s just a ding dong you tube video.
What I am jealous of is how you guys come up with these video’s. For once, I’d like to be the first to watch one instead of the forty millionth…
-
Steve, That last part is probably easy. Spend less time outside, shooting, hunting, stumping, squirrel watching, and more time on the internet. Being forty millionth is probably a really good thing… dwc

Haha…there is much that is worth missing these days, for sure.

Speaking for myself, I’m not in an uproar about it, I’m just not impressed. I probably should be impressed, but it just didn’t do anything for me.
