It was a little chilly today. Had deer moving all morning. Had a doe come by out of range early and watched as she moved on a buck following her. I then heard some crossing the creek and then this one appeared to my left always staying behind cover. It finally moved to 25 yards and I shot slight 1/4 away. The arrow passed through and the far side shoulder. I was able to see the deer go down.
I called my wife and had her get my jr. tracker out of bed. I met him and took him to where my stand was on the tree then where the deer came from and where it was when I shot. Sam (9 yo) did a great job following the trail all the way to the deer and even found the broken arrow. He did not like the field dressing but was ok with the processing. He is also the camera man for me.

Way to go Dave!:D Glad to see you involved Sam in it as well. I keep telling everyone that if we forget the youth of our sport it will die of old age.

Very nice!
Good looking bow too. Who made it?
My boy, now 12, has been helping me blood trail since he was six. Last year he followed his own blood trail for the first time (on his 12th birthday). And… He pulled the deer out by himself.
He thought he was real proud of that, till I observed that now I had a good measure of his real strength and that he wasn’t going to get out of chores so easily anymore…
My boy and girl eagerly await my return every morning to see if they need to help me find a deer. I think they are somewhat disappointed with my poor performance most days…

Thanks,
The bow is a Spirit Longbow by Brian Holley.

Congratulations Dave! I love to involve my daughters in our hunts as much as possible and I enjoy seeing their skills grow more than anything! What part of the state are you in? I took my first doe of the season last Thursday evening in Jefferson Co. with my favorite recurve. Keep up the great work.

This was his first time tracking. After he found the deer I asked him if that was the only path the deer went. He said yes so I walk him past the deer a few yards and up the hill to show how it doubled back and was heading down hill when it fell and was face the direction we came from. It was a good lesson for both of us.
