Came across this website the other day:

        http://www.packerdirect.com.au/Home.aspx

Seems like reasonably priced roo leather if ever you guys wanted to try it in any of your projects. Really lightweight, high tensile material. Apparently all top of the line soccer boots are made out of it. So are two pairs of field boots I own. Good stuff 😉

Another thing on that site I can highly recommend is the sew-awl speedy stitcher. Just buy it off ebay, they’re like 15 bucks. I’ve done field repairs on my pack with one of those that are still going strong years later. I never bring a sewing kit any more, just my sew-awl. Great little tool!

Harbor Freight has the same for half the price. Been using them since I was a teen.

Ausjim, here is a picture of my homemade holster made with my speedy stitch sewing awl. When sewing heavy leather I use what I call the nail method. After you have cut out your leather pattern, hold it together and make a hole with a small bit in a power drill.Stick a finishing nail in the hole to hold the pattern together.Continue drilling holes and putting nails in them. When your ready to sew pull, out a nail and put in a stitch. You’ll be amazed how fast you can sew heavy leather!

I’ve used a Speedy Stitcher for years for repairing all sorts of outdoor gear. They’re awesome.

Skinner, that’s a neat technique mate. I’ll be giving it a go.
