I just spent eight days climbing the hills of the sawtooth mountains in Idaho after cougars.

Earlier this year, I spent several days in the mountains of N GA chasing black bears (and apparently feral swine)

And Soon, I’ll be back in those hills chasing turkeys.

That type of hunting just invigorates me. I love climbing into a well placed treestand and watching the woods for hours on end, but the adventure just isn’t there.

Nothing better than lacing up the boots just at daylight and heading out to wherever the day takes you. Burning lungs up hills and packing out game.

I’m going to do a lot more of it this year.

I’ve got a new piece of fatlighter from a ponderosa pine in the side pocket just in case.

I’ m with ya up there. I have nothing against treestands but they are like a judge said to me “10 hrs on the stand son and we’ ll call it good”. Then add a week or more to that and it’ s no fun to me. I’ m to the point I mostly don’ t care about ” scoring” anymore anyway which explains my choice:D

Roaming hills and creeks and marshes is a pleasure in of itself, for me at least 😛

Add a bow and the requisite quiet, careful footfall and engaged senses of the hunt and wow, what a great way to spend a morning or afternoon 🙂

It makes a hunter a better human being.

You got it. I can’t wait to be walking through springtime looking for gobblers.
