FINALLY am going to make it to Colorado for a long delayed Elk hunt this fall. Have put together what I feel is going to be a pretty lethal combination. I’ll be taking both of my Widow PL longbows….one is 53#@28″ and the other is 54#@28″. I am shooting a Easton Traditional Only .400 carbon with a total of 350 gr. up front, 100 grain brass point adapter with 160 gr. Grizzlies mount on 100 grain adapters or 200 gr. Grizzlies mounted on 100 gr. adapters using the 50 gr. brass point adapter. Either combo gives me over 630 gr. total arrow weight. First time using the single bevel. I have owned them before but could never get them as sharp as I like. Did a bit of swapping and I now have a KME sharpener so I am good to go.
For those of you that have experience with the Grizzlies, is either of the Grizzlies I have preferable over the other? Any quirk or characteristic that I need to be aware of? My accuracy is the same for either combo with one being an average of 5 gr. heavier (the 160, older style that actually weight between 153 gr. and 157 gr. on my scale). Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks>>>———->Mike

The 160 gr. and 200 gr. are the two toughest of the Grizzly heads, but the 200 gr. is definitely tougher than the 160. Twice I bent 160 grain grizzly heads during the Asian buffalo testing. I’ve never bent the biggest Grizzly head on any tissues, on any animal, and they were in the testing for over 25 years – which has to make it the most tested broadhead of all times. I’d go with the 200 grain Grizzly.

Mike,
The new Grizzlies are all made from the same steel and are all hardened to about 54 Rockwell. The 160s and 200s are even made from the same thickness of steel. The 160 only weighs less than the 200 because it’s shorter.
You didn’t mention if you got a BHD or knife sharpener… I like the knife sharpener better for the longer 200s but the BHD sharpener is fine for the 160s. I think it comes down to which of the two you can get the sharpest and which one flys best for you.

Thank you both for your replies.
Ron, I did a swap for the knife sharpener. I read up on both sharpeners quite a bit and it seemed that the knife sharpener was the way to go. I have the 200s and 160s set-up within a few grains of each other using different combinations of brass inserts and/or steel broadhead adapters. At longer yardages (30-40) there is virtually no difference in flight or point of impact. Will spend tomorrow evening shooting and make a final decision. Thanks again for the feedback. Mike
