I bought some Judos for the first time last week at the suggestion of my hunting buddy. Stumping was a blast with them and was pleased at how easily they were retrieved.
Tonight I went out for some cottontails. 10 shots, 6 hit, none retrieved. All hits were <15 yards. Im not going to state that all the hits were head shots though I am damn confident that I wasnt hitting their tails.
I just now did a search and saw how my preferred head, the Ace Hex, seems to be the preferred head.
Oh well. It should be noted that my buddy shoots a compound and after tonite the differences between the wheelie and the stick bow were profound.
At least I got more shots off!

None retrieved???
Everytime I connect a judo with a longeared hopper they role over and quiver. Most times they couldn’t run even if they tried. Hard to run with a hole that big thru the goodie basket.:D

None. It was one of the ugliest experiences I’ve had. I went back this morn this morn with two hex’s and broadhead. 4 hits and 4 retrieved. 1 was one I hit last night.
Maybe at 15 yards I’m not keeping enough KE with the judo? Doubtful as the hexes are 145. Not sure what to think about it. I’m not one to just blame equipment.
I thought maybe the shots were farther than I thought so I paced a few this morn that I estimated at 15 and turned out to be more like 18 though I don’t think that’d make a difference between a harvest or not.

I have had pretty much the same experience. Hit and lost 2 Ruffies and 1 Hare with Judo’s before I made the switch to Hammer blunts. Haven’t lost a critter since. Not sure why this is, since so many people swear by them.
But as you mentioned, they are great heads for stumping.

I like penetration and impact to seal the deal. With rabbits, I would think the judo would go through it anyway, seeing how thin skinned they are.
Never the less, I just put a washer behind a field point. I find that will take down any critter. And it’s a lot cheaper than some of those expensive stumping heads.
and I have not lost one yet.
They work as well as the judo at keeping the arrow from digging under. A hundred count box of 1/4-20 washers will last a lifetime. Line the rounded punch edge of the washer up with the bevel on the back of the fieldpoint for self-centering, and you are good to go.

wondering what bow poundage you’re using? Never used a Judo myself, always field points.

Im shooting a 53# Bamboo backed Ipe reflexed longbow I made myself. 30.5″ arrows with a 29.5″ draw. Im confident with this bow. A week before i was using field points and had no issues.
Im gonna go with the washer idea. Back when i lived in Utah we’d put wing nuts on behind a hex nut. Worked great.

Hey Gigglemonk
not a big Judo fan for reason your saying…great for stumping though!
I use the ACE Hex in 300gr (hunt w Ashby’s and use 315gr matching weight fieldpoints from ABS for all practice)…
That 300gr Hex kills everything I’ve hit with it deader than dead 😆
using a 50# Widow PMA or my 52# Fedora Stalker 8)
