I was asked by a friend of mine to hunt on his property. A world of difference from where Im used to hunting in south Texas, Tip Of TExas. I gathered my family and hunting gear and headed to Weatherford, Tx. There are real trees there and Deer everywhere. You can go out for a drive and actually see deer in peoples yards and on the side of road. So here it is I arrived and the we had just received a crisp cold front that inititated the rut and a FULL MOON. My wife was in a tree stand and me and my littel girl both with bow in hand were hiding in a natural blind. 1st day we saw does being chased by Bucks everywhere but not within bow distance. 2nd and 3rd days of the Moon we saw nothing. Not even on the side of the road on the drive home. Well after 4 or 5 outings in beautiful cold weather and the perfect place for hunting we had to head for home. Well I just got a all and a picture from my buddy with a nice fat doe. He said that they all came out early were eating up Acorns. My luck. Either way, it was the best hunting trip ive had. My family loved it hunting there and i must admit, the oak trees, Orange osage, hedge apples……………the scenery was breathtaking. I am trully blessed to hunt with my family in such a a beautiful place. We didnt sack up an deer but we hunting like real hunters. hunting over rubs, scrapes and trails.

my little ladys shoots a custome recurve with wood arrows and my wife still has training wheels. Me and my daughter are trying to convert her. I have to add that I had ordered a bow which is perfet for my 11 yr. daughter and we visited the shop in Weatherford to see her bow in the final stages. a (Phoenix Lite) made by dryad bows…35#26. Holy Smokes!!!!!!it is smoking fast. She fell in love with it as well as I. It just needed to get a few final coats. I love it, She loves it………………………..

I’ve often admired those tomahawks in the 3Rivers catalogue. What are they like to shoot? WTG on the custom recurve for your little girl, sounds like she can grow with the bow and keep her trad flame burning 😀

I love my Tomahawk. It is fast smooth and quiet. Some dont like the the riser but I do. I know some shooters prefer the pistol grip riser. I like mine well. As for my Daughters bow. Her recurve was a gift from a memeber of this forum. You just might guess who it was.. He makes one sweet bow and smoking fast. I had preordered her longbow way in advance of receiving this wonderful gift from my buddy. It was a Xmas gift for my daughter. Maaannnnn you should have seen her eyes light up when he whispered in her ear. Merry Christmas… Brother if your reading this… You really made a girls dream come true…

Brother, I was hoping to hear she had drawn blood with it.

Your luck sounded better than mine. Spent the better part of three days with the good Dr. and nothing……

I think the wildlife has figured out how to read finger tapping on the keyboard.

Ed had been seeing both hogs and turkey daily until a few days before I arrived.

As luck would have it, the only hogs I saw were coming into the feeder at noon one day (can you believe that? High noon) and I guess they spotted me as I walked out the door. Then I ran head on into the turkeys as I was driving out his gate to head back to McAllen.

Still, had a great time and got a chance to cover alot of topics with my ol’ Amigo.

Can’t wait for a chance to head back down. Hopefully in the spring.

If this winter is anything like today I may make it sooner.
