A friend just gave me six carbon arrows with cap wraps and vane fletch. He said that I could remove both by dipping the tail end of the arrow in boiling water. My question is, won’t this damage the arrows? Will they be safe to shoot after?

I have never heard of dipping them in boiling water. I wouldn’t. One of the benefits of the newer wraps is that all you have to do is peel the wrap off and the feathers/vanes come with it. Just find the edge and unwrap them.

You can use a hair dryer to soften the wrap, and it will not damage the carbon shaft. Then use a small amount of acitone on a rag to clean the shaft before fletching or putting another wrap on.

Ditto on the hair dryer, buy some adhesive remover,I bought some at a sporting goods store they use it to remove tape residue on athletes made by Kramer works great to clean the shaft after you remove most of the wrap! Non Caustic too!

I’ve used the boiling water method with great results.

Hubertus, there was no damage to the shafts? I tried it on one shaft and found that the nock fit very loosely afterwards. Perhaps the heat caused the shaft to expand. Have you noticed this, and if so does the shaft eventually revert back to original size?

It’s not something I’ve done a lot, but everything was normal on my shafts. (I use Carbon Xpress Heritage shafts.)
I believe the guys at Alaska Bowhunting Supply (makers of Grizzly Sticks) recomend this method for stripping fletching that’s been applied on top of a vinyl crest wrap (like I use).
